lUll Silllllill Tom Sawyer and his lazy, tough pal, Huckleberry Finn were up to their old pranks Friday, May 2, l947, when the Senior Class of Lebanon presented its class play at the high school gym under the direction of Kee Buchanan Groves, ia veteran of many dra- matic warsl There you discovered Tom trading off chances to help white-wash the fence, you were amused in Tom's pride in the plans for his own funeral, you enioyed Huclcs an- tipathy to shoes and soap and water, you wanted to cuff Sid, the smarty, you were en- chanted as Tom was with his new girl friend, Becky Thatcher, and a bit sympathetic with the old one, Amy, with he sauciness and her lisp. The exasperating scamp, Tom Sawyer, was played by Remmal Nivens, His part- ner in mischief, no-count Huck Finn, was well interpreted by Leon Karnbak. Jean Burns as the sharp-tongued, soft hearted Aunt Polly, had a maior role in the play. Whitey Opdylce played with relish, the part of Sid, the smoothy, Tom's brother, who was always tattling on him. Patsy Nelson, Tom's sweetheart, was a fetching lass, and it is easy to understand Tom's subiugation to her charms. Amy, the "past" in Tom's life, a smart little piece, with a tart charm of her own, was played by Marlys Sinclair. Paul Alley as the school teacher, and Mary Gene Gregory, his girl, supplied some old-fashioned love scenes. Elmer Fields was that rugged character, Indian Joe. Joe and "Tough" other friends of Tom and Huclds timeless partnership, were played by Delvan Miles and Glen Crossan. The mothers of these rascals and some neighbor women were, Mrs. Douglas, Alice L. Reck, Mrs. Harper, Oma White, Mrs. Crass, Margaret Howe, Mrs. Thatcher, Ramona Edwards. Miss Marsh, a teacher, was Eloise Groves. Her school children were, Arden Keebler, Pat Caughren, Dorothy Mayo, John Richards, Shirley Spires, Faye Keen, Clarita Grahm, Minnie Jean MacLennan, Juliann Carper, Mary Moynihan, Shirley Clendennen, Ulas Moss. Under the direction of Mrs. Helen Price, the Girls' Sextette sang a group of songs. These girls were, Anne Swanson, Orvilliss Pepperling, Barbara Pierce, Doris Groves, Betty Sommers, and Lorene Rowton. An original interpretation of several old l88O favorites was given by Doris and Dorothy Neustel, Harry and Leon Drapela. A Mrs. Ellen Wilshire, a senior class advisor, assisted with arrangements for the play. Ushers-Barbara Sherfy, .loan Humphreys, Pat Klavano, Dona Mills, Melba Cox, Diana Edes.
