After rnuch delaying the G.A.A. finally got a start soon after mid-year. its elected
officers were, President Janet Whelan, Vice-President Clarnell Bryant, Secretary Betty
Wooddy, and Treasurer Alma Smith.
Their first function was the sponsoring of a dance after the Sweet Home basketball
game, which was very successful. Their pot luck supper, held in the home economics
building, also turned out to be a sumptuous affair and vvas attend by a large portion
of the G.A.A. members. The entertainment was afforded by couples doing individual
performances. After the entertainment all retired to the kitchen and proceeded to
clean up the dishes and straighten up the building.
The G.A.A. has ordered the letters and awards for deserving members and are
looking forward to their arrival. They held a doughnut sale and earned part of the
money to pay for the letters.
A girl has to earn TOO points before she can become a member and due to the
inactivity of G.A.A. last year, many of the girls didn't have enough points this year, but
hey are all looking forward to being members in the coming year, and hoping to earn
their awards then.

The Fire Squad under the supervision ot Mr. Brenner and Fire Chief Cedric Wallace
has turned in an excellent piece of work handling tire drills. There is a squad member
at each main door, fire extinguishers, two members at each hose, and several to check
rooms to have windows closed, lights out, and doors closed. ,
At the beginning of the year all equipment was checked, so worn parts could be
replaced. Fire extinguishers were refilled and broken loose for immediate use. Hoses
were tried under pressure for breaks and recoiled for easy handling.
Fire drills have been under all kinds of conditions. Drills with no parts ot the build-
ing blocked took one minute, five seconds. South entranfe blocked off the drill was
one minute, twenty seconds. One of the best drills was sounded during an assembly
when all students and teachers were in the gymnasium. lt took one minute, twenty-tive
The state fire inspector and city fire chiel praised the smooth corordination of the
fire squad during a drill given for the inspectors. Alt er the drill talks by both the
inspector and chief were given to fire squad members on new equipment, ways of getting
out of the building faster, and mainly safety first. lnspection of all the school buildings
were made by ins '-ectors to find out the tire hazards around the school.

A well-organized staff, headed by Editor-in-chief Betty Southwick, assisted by As-
sistant Editor George Fowler, Business Manager Grace Whiteis, Assistant Business Man-
ager Jucly Swanson and an able staff of writers, issued the first copy of the Lebanon Q
Hi-Light February 21, 1945.
Because of difficulty in obtaining an advisor at the beginning of the year, the
paper was unable to go to press sooner. As a result, there were only eight issues.
This year the Lebanon Hi-Light has reached a thriving circulation of 1200. Into A
many parts of the world the Hi-Light has been sent at the request of ex-Lebanon High f
students now in the service. Our exchange has a far-reaching circulation also. '
Many local businessmen are to be thanked for their part in sponsoring the paper. J
Also Mr. Van Loh, who by special arrangement, printed our paper.
As our advisor, Mr. Hickcox has led us through a very successful year. The entire A
staff has appreciated his cooperation and able leadership.
