On one of my tours throu h the country on the
Humming Bird Special headed for San rancisco California
I passed a theatre owned and operated by M and Mrs
Herman Samms It was very interesting for me to see as
Mrs Samms was one of my classmates
I was much surprised when the Humming Bird broke
down but it gave me a chance to look around The Special
was repaired very quickly by one of the country s best
mechanics Leonard Mattingly
While the train was being repaired it gave me the
time I needed to view the town As I was crossing the
street I was hit by a speeding automobile driven by Tony
Booth I was rushed to a nearby hospital where Miss Minnie
Cofer was head nurse After about an hours rest I was dis
charged by Dr Donnie McM1l1en
On my way from the hospital I stopped at a drugstore

I decided to continue the rest of my trip by bus so
that I would have time enough to visit some of my old triends
I took a taxi across town to the Rose Bowl where Jimmy Doan
was playing football and his wife Peggy Boone Doan was
leading the cheering section As I started to sit down I
recognized another of my classmates Lillian Sweat who told
me that she was now a registered nurse and on private duty
I was getting hungry so I stopped in a large fashion
able cafe and Eddie Montgomery the head waiter showed me to
my seat He also directed me to the Boller Derby where Doro
thy Newman was performing an act on skates
The next day I decided to go home in Lebanon Junction
My bus was six hours late and I decided to go see Mrs Blon
dell Burxhead and family
