IN DEDICATION . . . ' f Owing so much to one who has enriched our memories with her knowledge and with her involvement in our activities, we, the Senior Class of 1971, dedicate our PIONEER to Mrs. Alma K. Buckles. 128

To-day is not yesterday. We ourselves change. How then, can our works and thoughts, if they are always to be the fittest, continue always the same. Change indeed is painful, yet ever needful; and if memory have its force and worth, so also has hope. — Thomas Carlyle

Page 133 text:

I wanted to write you some words you ' d remember words so alert they ' d leap from the paper and crawl up your shoulders and lie by your ears and be there to comfort you down through the years, But it was cloudy that day and I was lazy and so I stayed in bed just thinking about it. I wanted to write you one last, long love song that said what I feel one final time. Not comparing your eyes and mouth to the stars But telling you only how like yourself you are. But by the time I thought of it, found a pen, put the pen to ink, the ink to paper, you were gone. And so this song has no words. — Rod McKuen Much patience and diligent work on behalf of many people is necessary to the formulation of a meaningful annual. To Mr. Horton, Mrs. Bundy, Miss Howard, and Mr. Phillippi . . . my special thanks for your enduring patience and capable guidance in yearbook planning. I am grateful most of all to Sandra, Cathy, John, and Mike who gave their time and talent in an effort to capture the atmosphere of life at Lebanon High School. Months of hurried planning and quick glances over master layouts and specification forms have become last- ing memories as the 1971 PIONEER unfolded from the thoughts of a five member staff. " The Society at Lebanon High School . . . " gradually revealed itself through months of change, and it has been our privilege to be able to record it in the form of a memory book. It is my sincere wish that each of you will find some part of your year within these pages. Sincerely, Kay Pyle Editor 129
