The Science Club con- sists of students who show an interest in the field of science and have main- tained a B average in science and mathematics. This year the Science Club sponsored the first Russell C ounty Science Fair in which students from the four county high schools participated. The sponsors are Mr. Hester Adams and Miss Shirley Lewis. Carol Breeding, Judy Lasley, and Nancy Johnson prepare new books to be shelved. Our continually expanding library is equipped to meet the majority of the needs of L.H.S. students. Books and filmstrips pertaining to each academic course are avail- able in the library. Miss Nell Howard is always willing to help further the student ' s knowledge of library science. Future Homemakers of America Our purposes for the year were to promote better health habits and to participate in worthy community activities. In carrying out the purpose to create better health, the club showed the film " Is Smoking Worth It?”, to inform the F.H.A. members of the health hazards of smoking. During Christmas, the club provided food, toys, and clothing for a needyfamily in the community. The F.H.A. also held a buffet supper at which the initiation service was held for the new F.H.A. members. Meade, D. Eas- terly, D. Moore, M. Salyer, V. Ray, D. Salyer, J. Lasley Future Teachers of America The Future Teachers Club has hadvarious projects in which they have participated this year. The club held open house with guides to show the parents each of the class rooms, and parents had a chance to discuss their children ' s progress with the teachers. The parents also had an opportunity to see the Reading Labora- tory and to see how the equipment was operated. Members of the club checked coats at basketball games and served as babysitters at P.T.A. meetings.
