Zfrewvrd For many reasons the Staff of Roll Call considers that this 1965 issue has some special value as a record of the activities of the Class of 1965. Miss Tyrrell to whom the book is dedicated has taken an integral part of the high school career of every one. The pictures of the various activities and of the students will deepen the appreciation of all who have been students here. The separate classes have provided avenues of intellectual interest, but the spirit of the group is to be derived from the memory of the joys of the life of Leavenworth Central School. For each member of the school community the staff wishes a future both satisfying and fruitful. L As the staff of Roll Call of 1965 presents this issue, it realizes that this record of the activities can help to deepen the memory of the friends who were our companions in the pursuits at Leavenworth Central School. Here were formed some basic ideals for living in the free society, that is America. C0 Wyrwmz Zyrrell Who has made :L never failing contribution to Leavenworth Central School of her time and her devotion above and beyond the call of duty, and who has aided in the progress of our school from its centralization through its period of growth, We dedicate this book as a token of our appreciation and esteem. Miss Tyrrell served the district from August 1, 1932 until her retirement February 1, 1965. WU ba' is me Plan Ar t 0'k On Ou , vw? 1301! 6111! Staff Editorr ,,,,,,,.. As this issue of .Roll Call goes to press only half of the Student Council's accomplishments and activities can be recorded. The period from October 1, 1964 to February 9, 1965, therefore, will be presented to preserve a likeness of the 1964-65 Leavenworth Central School Student Council. The officers are: President-Robert Chapin, Vice-President-Cindy Eagletong Secretary-Cheryl jackson, Treasurer-Bruce Marsh, and Parliamentarian-Thomas Ticconi. During the month of October the victorious Patriotic Party's platform was presented for Student Council consideration by President Bob Chapin. Of these, four points were approved by the administration, and committees were set up to bring these planks into reality. They are: 111 a sports score poster on three floors posting the score of all Leavenworth athletic contests, Q25 Student Council Bulletin board opposite Room 214, Q31 waste baskets in the halls, and Q41 record hops after basketball games. Also, the Halloween Party was organized bv the Student Council and collection of the annual 2593 tax was undertaken by the representatives. A 'l'Also in November, the waste baskets were put in the halls on the top floor. A tea for Rekha Sarup, foreign exchange student, was being planned. On December 8, the tea was held in the homemaking room. 'l tOn Dec. 15 meeting, a door decoration contest was sponsored by the Council and a student-of-the-month and an A.F.S. assembly was proposed. i In January, the first Student-of-the-month was chosen, one for the High School and one for Junior High. Record hops were success- fully held after some of the home games during the basketball season. Richard Nixon is the current disk jockey. On February 2, a joint International Day was held at Leavenworth by the A.F.S. Club and the Student Council, at which A.F.S. students from all over the county presented an assembly. A reception and record hop held the spotlight from 2:50 to 3:30 to complete the day. The Student Council has been working on a new Constitution and expects to have it approved by the administration and voted on by the student body in the near future. Preceding have been some of the highlights in the Student Council's business and accomplishments. Council members foresee more activities for the benefit of Leavenworth Central School and hope that the remainder of the year will be as active and fruitful. 'In November, Mrs. Carl Katz, president of the Wolcott Chapter of the American Field Service, visited a Council meeting and proposed .the establish- ment of an A.F.S. club at Leavenworth Central. At the close of the meeting, there was a unanimous vote in favor of forming this organization. MTo promote membership in the A.F.S. Club, the Council asked Mrs. Katz and the recently appointed Club advisers, Miss Nancy Bower and Miss Betsy Kinsey, to explain the aims of the new organization at the tea. 52 The Wolcott Chapter of the National Honor Society, following the fall induction, had a membership of 19 students from the Junior and Senior classes. As projects for the year, members continued operation of the paperback bookstore and also continued the system by which awards will be given to deserving non-members of the Society for scholastic achievement. firmer Sacicfy Sealed: Mrs. Coman, Marian Smith, Joanne Minier, Lacey Ward, Victor Galek, Mrs, Black. F.H.A. held its annual installation of officers and new members in October, '64. This year we did away with all the silliness. At first we tried to get just senior high girls to join, but it didn't work out. So now the group consists of 8th grade girls and senior high girls. F.H.A. is open to all girls in grades 8 through 12. We have held several bake sales this year. One was at the School Fair and the other was at the Halloween Party. February 8 was the most important, because the proceeds went to C.A.R.E. and the John F. Kennedy Memorial Library. As this yearbook goes to press, the club is planning on holding a Mother and Daughter Banquet. It will be held at a local restaurant. We haven't decided yet as to time and place. I would like to thank our most capable advisor for all her help and advice this year. Thank you, Miss Yatarola. , , , Virginia Young President F.H.A. The purpose of our club is to aid foreign students in getting settled in our community and school affairs. We also plan on keeping students we send abroad informed as to the current events happening at home. Our club provides entertainment for the exchange students visiting our school during the school year as well as in the summer months. Plans have been made to sell shares to people in the community with the goal of raising funds to send students abroad and bring a foreign student into our community as part of the exchange program. 59 ll E 679 J, is Epi 3 We Music' fusfrucfars Mr. Joseph Handfield Mrs. Dorothy johnson Miss Winifred Wilkes Mrs. Esther Searle J-IW1 chaff Cfhzfir Piano: Mrs: Searle, Clara Conklin. HIGH SCHOOL CHOIR An adjunct to the High School Glee Club is the High School Choir, a select group of twenty-four,voices. This or- ganization appears at intervals throughout the community and at school functions. One of their engagements this year was a public concert sponsored by the Young People's Club of Wolcott Methodist Church on March 14, where they sang for their supper. HIGH SCHOOL GLEE CLUB The 1964-65 High School Glee Club numbers 135, about equally divided between boys and girls. To sound its best, a glee club must have balanced voices, and this year the sopranos, altos, tenors, and basses complement each other to good advantage. One big event at which the Glee Club regularly performs is the Christmas Concert, but due to the illness of the director, Mrs. Esther Searle, the '64 Concert had to be canceled. Members hope, though, to make up for this omis- sion at their Spring Concert where they will sing a medley from My Fair Lady. For inspiration some of the group plan to attend the movie version of 'lMy Fair Lady in Rochester, before the Spring Concert is scheduled. Glee Club members made a similar trip to Rochester last fall to see a stage production of The Sound of Music at Eastman Theater. At the All-County Music Festival held at Leavenworth Central on February 12 and 13, Glee Club personnel had an opportunity to act as hosts and hostesses to guests from other schools. IUNIOR HIGH CHOIR Made up of four 7th and three 8th grade rooms, the Junior High Choir boasts 160 members. The Choir usually performs twice a year, at Christmas and again in the spring. A special treat for some members, including several freshmen, was the trip to the junior High All-County Festival at Lyons Central School on March -5 and 6. WAYNE COUNTY CHOIR AND BAND FESTIVAL The Wayne County Choir and Band Festival was held at Wolcott, February 12 and 13. The twelve schools of the county were represented in a choir of 175 voices and in aband of 80 pieces. Rehearsals were held Friday afternoon as well as twice Saturday, preliminary to the concert on Saturday evening. The Festival was a rewarding experience for students, and a satisfaction to their instructors. Much credit for this highly succesful undertaking belongs to all Leavenworth Central personnel, whose cooperation was indispensable. 5156 61116 Row 1-Mrs. Searle, Lynda Janes, Susan Stoughtenger, Gilda Topping, Marcia Ellsworth, Brian Marsh, Howard Doty, Robert Fowler, David Bieth, Dale Mundy, Ray Correll, Louis Campbell, Brian Dorn, Randy Jackson, Edward Bundy, Patricia Kellar, Mary Wetherby, Sandra Taber, Cyndi Baker, Linda Vezzose, Dale Palmer, Cheryl Woodruff. Wolcott's Track squad enjoyed a very successful season during it's first season of operation by placing second in B League competition. Due to the lack of space, Coach McDonald's boys practiced on the old Microd track which covers an eighth of a mile. Since all the other county tracks are one fourth of a mile in length, the team worked at a disad- vantage, Hank Allen was Wol- cott's top track star placing second in the Hurtles at the Sectionals. With most of last year's squad returning including Ron Redden, Ed Hawkins, and Barry Powell, the Track team's future looks quite bright. For the third straight year, the Cross-Country team, under the watchful eye of Coach Peter McDonald, enjoyed another successful season Although the squad was plagued by injuries late in the season, the Harriers still placed third in the Wayne County standings. Wayne Central continued to be the only team which could consistently beat Wolcott, defeating the team in both outings. Ed Hawkins remained Wolcott's top runner placing first in the county and third in Sectional Competition. With initially the same squad returning next fall, the Cross-Country team is again looking forward to another succesful year. Although only two victorious matches crossed our path in 1964, the cool cats of the Wolcott Tennis Team did not consider the season skinny. Our coach was the one who pulled us through by burning our prides and washing our wounds in the gym.
