EULOGY WILLIAM JAY BARRETT 19 JULY 1980 USS LEAHY ICG-162 PHILIPPINE SEA We are here this evening to honor and pay our respects to the memory of Fire Control Technician Second Class William Jay Barrett. Petty Officer Barrett was born October 22nd, 1957 in Lima, Ohio. He joined the Navy on 24 October 1975 and has been a Leahy shipmate since 11 June 1977. He is survived by his wife, Lenee Ann Barrett, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Barrett, two sisters and a brother. We have lost a valued shipmate. We have lost a valued friend. What he accomplished we can only reflect on. What he may have accomplished we can only speculate. His destination has been determined by a higher power. He is lost to us, but he is not forgotten. He is lost to us, but not to God. WILLIAM JAY BARRETT BORN 22 OCTOBER 1957 DIED 18 JULY 1980 He is lost too soon. Authored and Rendered by CWO2 Paul E. Kane, USN This Cruisebook is dedicated to the memory of our departed shipmate, Wil- liam Jay Barrett, who was taken from us in a tragic accident on 18 July 1980. Petty Officer Barrett reported aboard Leahy on 6 November 1977, and during his tour proved to be an outstanding technician. He took pride in his work and no problem discouraged him.
