Class History Thrrlled' Ill say vue vu ere that day in September of 1938 that we first made our entrance to L H S Mr Stenger was then our class sponsor At our first class meet ing we elected the following officers Everett Roberts president Edward Murrll vice president Velma Beard secretary treasurer Jessie Jeanne McMur1ough re porter Donald Haney historian At the beginning of the new semester Lucia Man gold was elected secretary treasurer and Boyd Clark vice president the other offi cers remained the same Our first glorious years was made more so by the annual party given Dec 16 1938 and ended with a picnic in the spring which was held at Evergreen The year of 1939 began with the election of new officers They were Everett Roberts president Ste-xe Vrdetich vice president Jessie Jeanne McMurrough sec retary Robert Slonecker treasurer and Dean Harrington reporter and historian We had a new sponsor that year Mr Wilson As usual we had a class party which vt as held on Dec 15 1939 Again we held our annual picnic at Evergreen We as very dignified sophomores came back in 1940 to elect the following offr eers Boyd Clark president John Donovan vice president Lucia Mangold secre tary Hazel Mrller treasurer Donald Larsh reporter and historian Our this years Clark who had left Leadville as pr esrdent of the class The annual picnic closed this year with a bang As Juniors vue came back to have a very adventurous year in 1941 Naturally the first thin ' vte did was elect our officers for the year They were Robert Slon ecker president Jessie Jeanne McMurrough vice pr srdent Hazel Mrller secretary Donald Haney treasurer and Irene Nadon reporter and historian Then we gave the Junior Senior party on Dec 5 1941 xx hrch vxithout doubt was a great success Oh yes we as Juniors gave that well remembered play Dont Take My Penny From the proceeds of the play we gave the Keep Em Flying Banquet and the Victory Prom on May 9 1942 At the prom the orchestra platform was in the shape of a ship and yeas called the U S S Wrlson after our sponsor A good time was had by all To end this great and successful year ue gaxe a picnic May 22 1942 Again it was held at Exergreen At last! We had arrix ed at that final year which started by electing Jessie Jeanne McMurrough president: Donald Larsh. vice-president: Frances Zakraisek secretary: Irene Nadon treasurer. and Frank Hren, historian. To start this Year right for us and the rest of the school. we gave the All School party on Sept. 11 1942. This year we the Seniors gaxe a Senior Fair called the Harvest Festival' on Sept. 25 and 26 1942. It vias a very great success. On Nov. 20, 1942 we attended a swell' party given by the Juniors. A new and our last semester arrixed. Frank Hren resigned as historian and Natalie Jean Nash was elected in his place. The hustle and bustle of graduating was in the air. In April and May we just rushed from one thing to another. Things hap- pened right and left. We went to work on the Annual. Slouch Day was April 16 1943. The Prom yeas May 24 1943. Skip Day was April 28. This year because of no gasoline and no food we first gave up our day trip and then our Senior Banquet but the Senior dance was held May 28, 1943. Our only hope is that our little sacrifice shall help with the winning of the war. Class Day on May 28 was given proudly to our families friends and the underclassmen. Miss Kelly. our new sponsor, helped us through this last year with her untiring efforts. June l xx as Commencement and we went out to face the future. good or bad. knovring that Leadville High had gix en us the necessary implements to face any future.
