In spite of the fact that the '51 season was not too
successful in games won, it was enjoyed by the squad,
who worked diligently under the leadership of Cap-
tain Bobby Brewer with the assistance of, first, Al-
ternate Captain Jim Bentley, later, Alternate Captain
Charles Boyd,
The season really started with spring practice,
when Coach Staggs and Assistant Coach Turpenview-
ed the boys' possibilities with keen interest. The
coaches were favorably impressed by the showing
made in two practice games.

When the regular season began, Mr. Smotherman
had joined the coaching staff, Returning to the gird-
iron this season were Lettermen Bobby Brewer, Carlton
Rochell, Tyson Robertson, Randall Kennedy, Sonny
McCrory,Charles Boyd, Jim Bentley,Jerry Thompson,
Tommy Brown, Jimmy Frisbie, Gene Ashmore, and
Kenneth Pettus, During the course of the season,
Robertson, Bentley, and McCrory were lost to the
team: but twenty-one players lettered. Two players
received honors from the Lawrenceburg Quarterback
Club: Bobby Brewer received a trophy as the team's
most valuable player and Carlton Rochell received
one as the team's most outstanding blocker.
One disappointment of the season was the post-
ponement, due to bad weather, of the Springfield
game, to which everyone had been looking forward.
The climax of the season was the half-time cere-
mony at the Thanksgiving Game with Pulaski, when
Miss Charline Durham was crowned 1951 Football
Queen, Her attendants were Misses Loice Kerstein,
Nell Hand, Doris Daniels, Patsy Jenkins, and Janice
Smotherman,
