DONNA BAILEY Donna Bailey, a true Dixie belle, came to Lausanne in her junior year from Coffeeville, Mississippi. and is a A1785 Harbert boarderf' Her outstanding capabilities have truly been utilized. ln Donna's junior year she was elected Secretary of the Spanish Club and of the History Club: also she was ehosen General News Editor of The Columns and was selected to attend the Journalism Clinic. She proved to be a valuable asset of the athletic teams and won an A.T.L'. medal for her effort. To show further versatility. Donna was a member of the Clee Club and took piano lessons. Furthermore, Donna was tapped for the National Honor Society. Donna participated in many varied activities during her senior year. The Presidency of the Senior Class. Business Manager of the Lausanne Locket, and Sergeant-at-Arms of the Spanish Club were the important offices to which she was elected. Besides her official duties Donna is a member of the History Club, Art Club, Clee Club. and National Honor Society. Surely S'Ole Bliss will welcome with open arms this talented Lausanne grad BARBARA DELLGACH Barbara Delugach is certainly the versatile all-American girl as her varied activities show. She has participated on the volleyball team for three yearsg she has been one of the main pillars of our publica- tions. The Columns and Lausanne Locket: and for three years a member of the National Honor Society. ln her freshman year she was member of the Tennis Clubg in her Fophomore year she was the Business Manager of The Columns, and member of the Dramatics Club. Barbara was a very busy girl in her junior year: Editor of The Columns. Treasurer of the National Honor Society. Co-Captain of the volleyball team. representative on the Lausanne Locket. and member of the Latin and History Clubs. A senior par excellence. Barbara is Editor of the Lausanne Locket. Treasurer of the National Honor Society. and member of the Glee Club. Barbara shall be remembered for a white Ford convertible. for being the height of fashion. for a 'ispecialu diamond. and for always being: very efficient. BETTYE CLA I RE EATON Bettye Claire Eaton, fixe feet. blue eyed blonde. came to our class in her junior year from East High. She was honored with the Vice- Presidency of the junior class. Also this sisaeious girl participated in the History Club. Spanish Club. and worked on the staff of The Columns. Bettye Claire continued her membership in the History and Spanish filulls. One of Betty:-'s notable talents is her ability to dance. being Alice of ,' X lice in W'onderland in the Christmas Page-ant. As circulation manager of the Lausanne Locket. Bettye has performed many important actisities for our annual. Bettye Claire will remain in our memory because of her vibrant personality and her golden hair. MARY NELL FRANK Mary Nell joined our class in the tenth grade and has been an active member of Lausanne ever since. She was a Feature Writer for The Columns and went to the Journalism Clinic in both her sophomore and junior years. During all three of her years at Lausanne, Mary Nell has been in the Clee Club, and in her sophomore and junior years, she was on the floor committee of the Cotton Camival. Also, Mary Nell has been a member of Lausanne's History Club in her junior and senior years. For all three of her years at Lausanne she has held a class office: in the tenth grade, Vice-Presidentg and in the eleventh grade and twelfth grades, Treasurer. She was tapped for the National Honor Society in the tenth grade, and in the eleventh grade she was elected Secretary of this club. Mary Nell was elected Quaestor of the Latin Club in her junior year and Counsul in her senior year. Also in her junior year she received an Honorable Mention in the Cicero Division of the Latin Toumament. Mary Nell has the important posi- tions of Co-Editor of The Locket and Student Council Representative in her senior year. Truly, Mary Nell has put her heart into her school. T7 CAROLYN EGGLESTON Carolyn Eggleston, small and sweet, has made fame for herself at Lausanne in only a few months. She was elected Secretary of the Na- tional Honor Society and Vice'President of the Latin Club: also the powerhouse of gray matter has made the Headmistress's List faithfully. Thank you, Hall High in Little Rock, for such an asset to our class. LYNN FRIEDMAN Lynn, one of the new seniors from Hall High, Little Rock, has won many friends with her friendliness and thoughtful nature. Gabbing with Lynn can while away many a dreary study hall! She was elected President of the History Club and is a member of the annual staff and Spanish Club. Thank you, Hall High, for Lynn. PATTI GILL A party at Patti's house is a treat to which all seniors look forward. This congenial miss has been a part of Lausanne for many years. Dur- ing this time she has been a member of the History Club, Honor Society, Spanish Club, and Art Club. In the tenth grade she was elected Red Cross Representative, and she was chosen Art Editor of The Columns. In the twelfth grade Patti was Chairman of the March of Dimes. Patti has been known for her fine art work, friendliness, and helpfulness. F . Lino SM. E 2 MARY ANN GORDON Mary Ann has the distinction of being in our class for the longest time. She began her school career at Lausanne at the young age of three and a half. ln the tenth grade Mary was elected President of the class and was tapped for the National Honor Society. Also Mary Ann served as the General News Editor on The Columns. In the eleventh grade she was elected President of the National Honor So- ciety and served The Columns again as Assistant General News Editor. Mary Ann was a member of the Latin Club and won Distinction in the city in the Cicero Latin Tournament. As a senior Mary Ann is working harder than ever in school activi- ties. She was elected President of the National Honor Society for another term and Secretary of the History Club. Mary Ann has done valuable work on the layout and photography committees of The Locket. A tall, willowy brunette, the special fame of Mary Ann has been modeling in the teen section of the Commercial Appeal. l JAN GRISSOM Jan came to Lausanne this year from Steele, Missouri. A tall, blonde, she has added to the general appearance of our classg her art work has added to the accomplishments of our class. We are very happy to have, Jan, as one of us. EMILY HALL Emily may have been a loss to Hall High School in Little Rock this year, but she certainly is Lausanne's gain. Quickly Emily has made a place for herself in the annals of our school by participating in the activities of the History Club, French Club, and Clee Club. Her friendliness won her the office of Secretary of the Senior Class, and her efficient mein won her membership on the Make-up Committee of The Locket. Lausanne is truly happy that Emily is one of her ANN HAMMOND An Ole Bliss jacket, a trim figure, and beaux identify Ann Ham- mond. Among her school activities is membership in the History, Art, and Spanish Clubs. In the short time she has been here, this dark- eyed, Spanish type beauty has gracefully filled her place in our class, as her gentle ways, soft voice, and radiant smile have made Ann a friend to all who know her. privileged seniors. -,--n-F' or 1, ui? SANDY HART Sandy Hart, a new member of the Lausanne Seniors. hails from Miami, Florida. Soft-spoken and gentle, Sandy Hart is a friend to all. Her main interest is riding, and her horsemanship is well known. To illustrate, in the 1958 summer circuit her horse, Faugh A. Ballagh, won the Hunter Championship, and she won the equatation reserve. ln the 1958 winter circuit, Sandy won the equatation championship again. This gal will go far, whether on horseback or otherwise. LIZ HOLLENBERG 'llhis pretty blonde refugee from l.ittle Rock has quickly fit in W ,4,. tht- Lausanne srene. She is the President of the Freneh and Clee Clubs and is a member of the Lausanne Locket, Art Club, and ' ' ' lift ww History Club. Many gorgeous hair styles, fan letters from readers. and dainty earrings bring Liz to mind. LIl.A HYATT Lila flyatt. a fun-loving gal from llyars-Hall. Covington. Ten- nessee. eame in her junior year. adding much pep and vim to our class. She was received with much popularity by her Classmates as evideneed by her past honors and aetivities. such as an aetive membership in the History Club, Spanish Club, Glee Club, National Honor Society, and as a class representative to the Red Cross. Lila was one of Mrs. Dixon's pride and joys as she was an important participant of the basketball team and in the track meet of her junior year. She also helped with the Lausanne newspaper, The Columns. Her spontaneous gait-ty and vheerful friendliness won the eleetions of Vicesllresident of the Senior Class, Yiee-President of the Spanish Club. and Secretary of the Red Cross. Busy fulfilling her duties of Co-Literary Editor of the Lausanne Locket, this girl has been seen pleading for poems and short stories in assemblies. Lausanne shall always remember Lila as one of her most lovable Seniors and most unforgettable personalities. ALYC E JA PPE .-Xlyee ,lappe, affectionately known as Poohie, holds a speeial spot in Lausannt-'s heart. Since the time she entered this sehool in her sophomore year. her far-reaehing friendliness has won her many laurels. sueh as representing Lausanne on the Floor Com- mittee of the Cotton Carnival in her sophomore and junior years and playing as a member of the Blue Team in the basketball and volleyball games. ln the eleventh grade Poohie was elected Red Cross representative for her class as well as Treasurer of the Spanish Club. Last. but not least. she was tapped for the National Honor Society. Poohie had important honors in her senior year such as being elected President of the Spanish Club and being eleeted representative to both the Red Cross and the Student Couneil. All this shows one important fact: Miss ,lappe is a grand girl. l F SUSIE l.0TZ Throughout Susie's years in high school three interests have been prominently hers: as an artist Susie has been a member of long- standing in the Art Club. was Co-Art Editor of The Locket, and re- ceived an Art Key for excellent work in her sophomore year. ln pur- suing her interest in science, she won an Honorable Mention in the 1958 Science Fair of Shelby County. Susie has been an outstanding athlete during all her high school days, participating on the Basket- ball, Volleyball, and Track teams. Because of her interest in sports, she has served The Columns as Sports Editor twice and this year was elected President of the Athletic Association. A fine horsewoman, Susie has served as Secretary and Vice-President of Lausanne's Riding Club during her Freshman and Sophomore years. Susie has been active in the Student Council work. serving in her Freshman and Sophomore years as a Student Council Representative and in her junior year being elected Vice-President of the Student Council. Last, but not least, Susie is a member of thc History Club. A member of our illustrious board- ing department, Judy Perry came to Chere Lausanne from Hockaday in Dallas. She has filled the position of Assistant Circulation Manager on the Lausanne Locket and has become a member of Miss Daggetfs Spanish Club. .ludy's excellent speaking ability made her a perfect narrator in the Christmas Pageant, Yes, sir, we are proud to have Judy Perry as a Lausanne Senior. 12. ,Z -,,f-'ff' The Junior Senior Dinner was held at the Dobbs House on Poplar. MARTHA ANN POWELL Martha Ann, another loyal Lausannite, has offered all the girls a challenge in scholastic endeavor. Martha, not a bookworm, makes good use of her sharp wit. A Red Cross Representative in her junior year, and secretary- treasurer of the sophomore class, as well as make-up editor of The Columns, Martha has always contributed more than her share to school activities. Also, she won the esteemed Honorable Mention in the Caesar Division of the Latin Toumament during her Sophomore year. A well-rounded girl, she has participated on the volleyball and basket- ball teams for three years. As a junior Martha received many honors. She was Vice-President of the National Honor Society, annual staff representative, make-up editor of The Columns, and First Consul of the Latin Club. A re- nowned Latin scholar, Martha won first place in the Cicero Division of the Latin Tournament. Mrs. Cragg is always impressed by the books Martha is required to keep as advertising manager of the Lausanne Locket. This is just another signpost of her efficiency. As program chairman of the Latin Club and delegate to the Memphis and Shelby County Youth Con- gress, Martha is a very busy person. SARA SLOAN Sara Sloan came to Lausanne in her junior year from Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. During her two years here, Sara has made an outstanding record. ln her junior year she held the office of program chairman of the Latin Club and was a member of the French Club and the Clee Club. Sara won honorable mention in the Caesar division of the Latin Tournament. When Sara returned this year as a Senior, she kept up her many achievements. She is treasurer of the French Club and a member of the History Club and the Clee Club. She was chosen co-literary editor of the annualg and above all, she is President of the Student Council. Sara's grades consist mainly of uA's, and she is a member of the National Honor Society. Lausane will never forget Sara, a sweet, friendly girl with personality plusg and most of all. as President of the Student Council, she has been quite an asset to the future Student Councils at Lausanne. BFTTL CAROL THOMAS Sweet, petite Bette Carol Thomas has been a working Lausanne girl since her arrival in kindergarten f and I do mean working as she was chosen representative of Lausanne to the Floor Committee of the Cotton Carnival and Co-Editor of the Lausanne Columns in the tenth and eleventh grades. Also in the tenth grade, she was tapped for the National Honor Society and was chosen representative of Lausanne to the meetings of the Independent Schools in Memphis. This little miss was given little rest in her junior year. because she had many duties as President of the Junior Class and as a member of the Latin Club. Betts-'s high scholarship record is illustrated by her award of Honorable Mention in the 1958 Latin Tournament of West Tf,nnCxSFK'f'. ln her Senior year Bette was chosen Photography Editor of the Lausanne Locket because of her efficiency and dependability. Be- tween trips to Pruette-Miller and conferences with Mr. Jaffe, she has time to devote to the Latin Club. Bette. as you see, is a genuine asset to our Senior class and to our school.
