In this, the 1965 Milextolze, we have tried to show 'more than the usual school pictures, but rather a true cross section of our past year at Laurel High School. It is our sincere wish that the fol- lowing pages will always bring back to you fond memories of the extracurricular activities and daily happenings which made this basic part of our education more enjoyable. 2 OLI 4 X w X. HERE A D THERE With many thanks from th faculty C This darned crepe paper Let's try this Blush On' On the following pages we have shown our faculty and administration just as we see them each day. These people have not only been our teachers, they have shared our disappointments, our joys, and our plans for the future. Because our school offers both vocational and college prepara- tory training, these teachers represent varied fields and interests. Through their guidance we feel that we have become more com- plete individuals. So to you, the fawlty and administration, the Senior class gives its thanks for all you have done for us during our years at Laurel High. I8 ,NN FACLI LTY AN D ADMINISTRATICN FACULTY DIRECTORY MRS. Some of us are eager to be out on our own, attaining the goals we have set for ourselvesg others of us, how- ever, look over our shoulders reluctantly. We will always remember the football games we won and lost, the eraser fights in homeroom, the teachers we could never fool, the mad dashes to the cafeteria, and all of the other things, big and small, which have made our years at Laurel so wonderful. It would be foolish to say these years were without disappointments and problems, but even these will be softened by the flattering light memory tends to shed on times past. 30 S X 3 . We, too, were confronted with the same important decisions one must make in his high school yearsg and we hope we made them wisely. As departing Sen- iors, we urge you to set a worthwhile goal for yourselves and to work toward it dili- gently, for your time at Laurel High School is all too short to spend it in aimless wan- derings. Furthermore, remember that a school is as good or had as the students themselves make it. Clubs such as the French clubs, choruses, Latin clubs, and band have provided count- less hours ot pleasure for us all. However, not all of the organizations at Laurel High were formed strictly for pleasure. Those such as the Athletic Coun- cil, Library club, Projec- tion club, and Student Council provide to the school services which would be sadly missed without them. Still others have been formed with the future in mind. Our membership and interest in the Future Farmers, Nurses, Teachers, Home- makers, and Business Leaders have given us ad- ditional knowledge in the fields we intend to culti- vate. The American Field Service has given the com- munity new and interest- ing friends through the Exchange Student Pro- gram. On the following pages, we have pictured these organizations which have provided us with the fun side of learning. 82 XX M X ...1i X. TH ESPIANS On Thursday and Friday evening, December 17 and 18, 1965, the Thespians and high school Chorus Presented The Stingiest Man in Town, the first musical in Laurel High School since 1959. Tickets were almost completly sold out, and the play was said to be the best theatrical production in many years. The play, based on Charles Dickens' Christmas Carol , was set in the mid 1800's and necessitated authentic costumes and beautiful scenery, for which we are indebted to Mr. Foster and Mr. Progar. The field house was used in order to facilitate the use of the better lighting apparatus as well as to be able to accommodate such large audiences. AMERICAN FIELD SERVICE I am Isabel Maria Jimenez, the AFS student in Laurel for the year 1964-1965. I come from Cartago, Costa Rica. My father is a banker and my mother is the treasurer in a vocational school. I have a sister, Maria Teresa, who is 16 years old, and a brother, Francisco Javier, who is 12 years old. Before coming here I attended elementary school for six years and secondary school for four and a half years, and I still have to graduate when I go back this year. Among my favorite subjects and hobbies are mathematics, English, volleyball and swimming. I applied to AFS with the hope of coming to this great land, America, which had been my dream all my life, and now after this year I know there will not be another such as this-new, exciting, and great. I00 rs x Xxx NN Isabel lends a hand in AFS Day preparations. Boy, it takes more than Wheaties to perform Judo! Old Christ Church captures the interest of our Time out for a shot on the Woodland Ferry. AFS friends. Remember that delicious dinner? There's no language barrier here! I0l Sports have played an important part in our school life. We will never forget the thrill of excitement as the winning touchdown was made or the mounting tension in the last seconds of a close bas- ketball game. Victory was always our ob- jectiveg defeat only spurred us to fight harder. We are leaving our records, troph- ies, and uniforms behind usg but we are taking one important part of sports equip- ment with us-,good sportsmanship. I02 X355 X Q X Q.. all S E EE Q N.
