IN MEMORIAM MILTON D. YERKES Who served on the Laurel School Board from 1949-1954. In memory of Milton D. Yerkes, President of the Laurel School Board of Education, whom almighty God has removed from our midst. He served our school without fear or favor during a period of un- certainty and confusion between a proud past and undetermined future. He exemplified both publicly and privately an abiding faith in the future and con- ducted the public affairs of the school with unsellish devotion. He won the admiration and respect of the citizens of Laurel with his ideals and sacrifices which will make Laurel School a better educational institution of the future. 7

l congratulate the Class of 1955 on the choice of theme for the Milestone lt will perpetuate the tradition and history of your schoolg your example of scholarship to be seen in the graphic arts of this book furnishes a standard of attainment for your successors to emulate. lt will produce that loyalty and pride in your school which is so necessary for the discipline of education you have illustrated and in this way establish a school to which we may be loyal. The art and literary standards to be found in this an- nual offer a challenge for high scholastic attainments. Your class will be graduated into a world of uncertainty and fear, but I am confident your ability will overcome the obstacles of life. When shadows darken your path, your faith will bridge'any valleys of despair you may experience. CH KRLES P.
