f, Spanish Classes Aspire to I F0525 UMUC!! ' i SKHY1 If I IPP! Nlr. Roger Gillard, who likes to travel very much, has been to the Orient, Europe, the Americas, and the Pacific. After all of his travels he has come to teach at Laton. UI like teaching here because I know everybody in the student body, whereas in the other schools I taught at, I couldn't possibly have known everybody, said Nlr. Gillard. Also lVlr. Gillard said, The kids here at Laton are more open and ready to discuss things but New Ideas the places I used to teach at were not as open. This makes it easier not only to teach but also to learn from the kids. When Nlr. Gillard is not teaching at Laton he is busy with his hobbies, which are vegetable gardening, mechanics, reading, handyman work, and basketball. 1. Mrs. Jarrett . el ' J l 3 Yi.- -'N Prepares Students for Jobw 2. Tap, tap, tap, ring is the familiar sound you heard in Mrs. Mary Jane Jarrett's typing class. When asked what their most practical class was in high school many people said typing. Typing is not for secretaries alone. Housewives, businessmen, teenagers have found typewriting most useful in their everyday lives. Preparing students for a job was the goal of Mrs. Jarrett. She enjoyed seeing students learn and progress. Mrs. Jarrett enjoyed the beginning of the school year best because students were excited and fu f ' lf 3 enthusiastic. She taught Typing I 8s II, clerical procedure, record keeping, and seventh grade writing. Laton being such a small school was very fortunate to have IBM electric typewriters. Mrs. Jarrett's goal for the next year was to get adding machines. 1. Mrs. Jarrett assists Christy Lee on a tough problem. 2. Future secretaries busily work at their typewriters. 3.
