a new and glorlous experrence rn the Latham Publtc Schools Lrttle dtd Mrckey Watson, Delbert Frnley Rolla Ryan and Dale Wakefreld reallze on that fateful September mornrng that they would strll be answerrng to the call of the same school bell twelve years later Emrly Hrldrbrand Juamta Craft and Joyce Lee Prrce Jomed us too on that happy occasron but they managed to play hookey from trme to trme attendrng varrous other educatronal rnstrtutrons Along wrth age however they garned wrsdom and rejorned our outstandrng class as the travesty of therr actrons dawned upon them Other members of our talented group that frrst year were Farrrs Creed Esther Marsland Joyce Razey Joan Ryan John Stokes Jrmmre Thurman and Dean Clrne We all survrved our frrst year and went back as second graders a much wrser group of puprls Joyce Razey and John Stokes left us to resume therr studres rn other mstrtutrons but we garned the compamonshrp of Patsy Rams and Elma Swmdell Mrss Troxel was our teacher It was rn the thxrd grade that we frrst acqutred a sense of group responsrbrlrty Mrs Smrth our teacher helped us stage a very successful stamp sellrng campargn for Unrted States War Bonds and thus we drd our b1t to defeat the Axrs Dean Clrne dropped out of school that year but we still had frfteen puprls rncludrng newcomers Shrrley Woodall Ron ald Evans and Kenneth Sharpton Durrng our fourth grade year Mrs Smrth resrgned as our teacher fwe must have been rncorrrgrblej and Mrs Peeb ler was forced to take the helm for the rest of the year Farrls Creed and Elma Swmdell sard farewell to our group and Bonnre Abraham Delrght Edwards Roberta Breever Carol Ann Abraham and Rrchard Reed were welcome addrtrons September 2 1947 marked another mrlestone rn our school careers at Latham On thrs September day under the tutelage of Mrs Glbson Pat Baker Dellght Edwards and Elrzabeth Hrnther farled to answer roll call that year but we added one newcomer and a stray to our group Mary Lourse Whrte transferred frfteen hardy souls and no smgle group ever exhrbrted greater prrde rn recervrng those erghth grade drplomas than d1d the erghth grade class of 50 September 5 1950 was another banner day for frfteen awkward goggle eyed students as classes got underway for the new freshman group rn Latham Hrgh School Fortunately for the class Mr Maygrnnes had the foresrght to assrgn a steady hand to gurde our destrnres and Mrs Anders proved to be about the best frrend and counselor we had through out our hrgh school careers Followrng a publrc freshman rnrtratron we humbly accepted our lowly pos1t1on rn the student body and settled down to awalt our lordly turn rn the years to come Esther Marsland wtthdrew from our group that year but we added Helen Dennett Marleta Wrllrams Howard Selvage and Stanley Smrth 1951 dawned a new era for our proud and arrogant class Gone were those humrlatrng trosh experrences as we stood frfteen strong to assume our respected posrtron rn the student body Followlng the
