DEDICA Tl Mr. Max Swinford and r Stan Martin Max Swinford - a tireless and energetic teacher and adminis- trator who has served Larkin High School for many years, is now retiring from the teaching profession. Mr. Swinford will continue to be an active supporter of the Larkin Floyals. Throughout his career at Larkin Mr. Swinford has always gone the extra mile to do the very best job possible for our students. He will be missed by all of us. We wish him the very best of happiness in his retirement years. - John C. Pennoyer, Principal A high degree of interest in students, staff, and Larkin are basic characteristics of our Max Swinford. He is a dedicated teacher, a - fn frugal and strong leader, and a coach to many Larkin athletes. Max is a vocational education teacher known and respected throughout the state of Illinois. He is also a family man, a gardener, and an avid mushroom hunter. We will miss his always present humor and his dedication and devotion to Larkin High School. Have a long, pleasant, retirement. - David L. Brown NEVER A SICK DAY IN 35 YEARS!! Seems impossible, but this claim certainly exemplifies one dedicated teacher - Max Swin- ford. This year marks the beginning of a new life for Mr. Swinford who has chosen to retire after sewing as Division Chairman at Larkin for the past eighteen years. He was born in Windsor, Ill. After high school he enlisted in the Marine Corp for forty months. This tenure made him eligible to enroll in college under the G.I. Bill. He graduated with a B.A. degree from Eastern Illinois University and later received his M.E. degree in administration and guidance from University of Illinois. Before coming to Larkin, he served as coach, guidance director, and principal at several central Illinois high schools. He is credited with starting the Cooperative Work Program at Elgin and Larkin High Schools. His retirement plans include spending more time with his sons and daugh- ter, and his four grandchildren. Traveling with his Betty, subbing and doing more service work and joining the Larkin Booster Club are also included in his plans. Mr. Swinford, here's to 35 more years without a sick day! We thank Mr. Swinford for unselfishly volunteering to be our coach this past season. We know that it had been a long time since he had coached, but without him, we could not have competed. Thank you for caring. - 1983-84 Girls' Varsity Basketball Team Stan Martin was born in Watson, Illinois, and left there to begin teaching in 1949 in downstate Illinoisg from there he went to Dietrich, Illinois where his students icluded Mr. Carl Nosbisch. From there he went to Clinton, Illinois, and in 1964 began his teaching at Larkin and finished twenty years here to mark his retirement. He has taught U.S. History and World History while being Asst. Track coach for fifteen years, head basketball coach for a number of years and Dean of Students for two years. His retirement plans include a visit to and possible retirement in California. His parting words to present and past students are to prepare because you always know a five point quiz is coming. It has been a pleasure both personally and professionally to know a man like Stan. - John Jenkins It has been my privilege to work with Stan Martin during the past six years, and I have enjoyed and profited from my association with this outstanding teacher. What may be less well known by today's students is that Mr. Martin has served Larkin High School for many years not only as a teacher but also as an administrator and a coach. He has played a significant role in building the fine traditions that make Larkin High School outstanding. We shall miss him greatly. Best wishes to Mr. Martin for much happiness in the years ahead. - John C. Pennoyer, Principal Mr. Martin is a great teacher. He has an unusual way of appealing to all sorts of kids. Along with learning history, we have a great time. I actually looked fonuard to going to his class. - Jon Monkemeyer 4 asf-a
