WYOMING I wish to extend to the Class of 1953 my sincere appreci- ation and congratulations on your high school achievements. Your fine example of sportsmanship and citizenship is an in- spiration for many students who will pass through Laramie High School in the future. May happiness and success crown your efforts in the years ahead. Your service in high school should help you to serve your community and your country well. Best wishes through life. J. E. Thayer Superintendent CORBETT JIarmni7 55 January 7, 1953 Greetings To All Laramie High Students: First may I offer my congratulations to the staff of the 1953 PLAINSMAN. You have portrayed the activities, personalities, and achievements of some nine hundred students of varied attitudes, interests and ambitions in an interesting and accurate fashion. This record depicts the development of healthy competition and harmonious cooperation, of successes and failures, of victories and defeats and accomplishments and errors. The good, however, far over shadows the bad and that is the way you will find it in the future whether it is in your hones, communities, nation or the world as a whole pleasant and may they erve you in the future. Best wishes to all of you, J. K. Corbett Like our school year the lone pine was small when it began and became strong as it grew. The lone pine has struggled through rough weather and years of loneliness; our school year was wearied with boredom, tragedies, and mistakes. Our lone pine reaches toward the heavens. This year some reached for the sky; some made it and some didn’t but we all tried. The lone pine stands on a lonely hill as the mute testimony of its struggle; but our school year is contained forever be- tween the pages of our 1953 Annual. Hi! I’m Jerry and he’s Joe. We’re dressed like pine trees to fit the theme; So come on let’s go. Let’s see the memories with which these pages teem .. These six include seniors, Jim Davidson, fifth place winner in the state 100 yard dash, Jim Chase, state champ in the 440, Bill Meebocr, high jumper and distance man, and Hugh Barr, high jumper. Also are two fine sophomores, Jim Cole, who finished fifth in the 880 as a freshman, and Mike Dotson, pole vaultcr. Last year under Coach Gene Beilkc I.HS's track team faired much better than expected. Chase had never ran the 440 until two weeks before the state finals. Patronize our advertisers Our lone pine has watched us very patiently through our school year to see if we could do it and we made it! We struggled through our boredom, suffered our tragedies and corrected our mistakes. Like our lone pine, we have gloried in the riches of autumn, shivered under the oppressive cold of winter, and finally felt promising warmth during an early spring thaw. Now we come to the end with the ever fresh memories of what we have accomplished this school year; and we look toward the future with optimism. m Photo of Lone Pine Courtesy of JOE KAY University Studios xeti Our wonderful trip is fmallj over.
