. . TRACK A D FIELD l 1970 was a most successful year for track and field at Lansdowne. Although operating only on a I.V. level, the team placed Hrst in all but two of its meets. Mr. Holt and Mr. Nowosielski coached a team that was sparked by the high jumping of Iim Bothe, the broad jumping of Sam Colgain and the distance running of Rick Smith. Of more significance, however, was the fact that they had success with a young team which consisted mainly of sophomores. FIELD HOCKEY This year the 1971 Varsity Hockey team at Lansdowne showed signs of im- provement over previous seasons. Coached by Miss Taylor and led by Cap- tain Sheila Vane, the girls managed two victories in six games. At the same time, the j.V. players went through a winless season while gaining valuable experience. Miss Wharton concentrated on the funda- mentals of hockey, thus preparing the girls for more productive years ahead. Members of the Varsity Hockey team are: Stand- ing D. Besa, Miles, Kehring, L. OLLEYBALL This year both the Varsity and Junior Var- sity Volleyball teams worked hard, trying their best to win every game. Although they -lost their chance for first place, they im- proved their standings from last year. Next season both teams plan to put forth a lot of effort and have a really successful year. The I.V. and Varsity teams played the following schools this year: Pikesville, Randallstown, Woodlawn, Milford Mill, Hereford, Frank- lin, and Dulaney.
