,,,,, . Contrary to popular belief football players don't get six months off between the end of one season and pre-season practice for the next. They spend several hours a day working out with weights and exercising to improve themselves individually and as a team. On Maximum Days they lift as much as they can stand. Many new records were set January 11, 12, and 13. Charles Savage broke 300 lbs. on the bench press. Leroy McKinley cleaned up the other records with 525 on the dead lift, 500 on the squat lift and over 1200 on the thrust machine . Other lifts not used on maximum day are neck, behind neck, overhead alternates, explosions and arm curls. The players are working hard to make next year's team better. -s fx S . .

Mclrchers On December 10th the night air was amazingly warm and dry for the annual Christmas parade. The band marched, preceded by the Varsity Cheerleaders on foot. Among the other groups from Lanier participating were the Phi Mu Kappa, Pep Club, Freshman Cheerleaders who decorated and rode on cars. The Student Council worked hard to build a float depicting Uncle Sam's Christmas at the White House. This year reigning over the parade as Queen Merry Christmas was one of Lanier's own, Lisa Kidd! Also in the court as fourth runner-up was Mary Smitherman. Dancing along delighting the kids that lined the parade route were the first-year members of the Key Club dressed as elves. Many students from hanier helped start Bessemer's Christmas season off right. Invacl Downtown Maven ' ,f 'WB , f ' fa' 2' ff if .ffm 'ew P n N
