Students Abandon Classrooms for Additional Information The Humanities I classes journeyed to a piece of the old South preserved at B1r mingham's Arlington Antebellum Home and used their observations along with reading Gone With The Wind to enliven their studies of the South before during and after the Civil War. Also going off campus, selected Biology students attended a Regional Energy Conservation Seminar and presented to their classes the rnforma tion they received . 1 Q I if A W 25

Trophies Awarded of Football Banquet Some of Lanier's talent was rewarded at the y - l , annual football banquet sponsored by the 3 i 6 J L M E Boosters Club. The most valuable defensive if Mike Dennis. Cedric Stevens, half-back, won the award for most valuable offensive player. Head Coach Bill Andrews and Wayne Chapman, president of the Lanier Boosters Club made speeches bringing out the highlights of the season and rating it as the best Lanier has yet had . The letters were given out to all players who had ranked highly enough during the season. ,,,,, . Contrary to popular belief football players don't get six months off between the end of one season and pre-season practice for the next. They spend several hours a day working out with weights and exercising to improve themselves individually and as a team. On Maximum Days they lift as much as they can stand. Many new records were set January 11, 12, and 13. Charles Savage broke 300 lbs. on the bench press. Leroy McKinley cleaned up the other records with 525 on the dead lift, 500 on the squat lift and over 1200 on the thrust machine . Other lifts not used on maximum day are neck, behind neck, overhead alternates, explosions and arm curls. The players are working hard to make next year's team better. -s fx S . .
