ECHOES OF THE THUNDERING HERD In l950 the Thundering Herd again had a successful baseball season. After losing two of the first three games, we won seven straight games and finished the season in a tie for first place with Fairfax. The season totals were eight Q81 won and two Q21 lost. The l950 football season was not as successful as that of baseball from a won and lost standing, but we realize that in athletics the number of games won and lost is not the most important point. In the first game Fairfax came to Langdale and won by a score of 26 to 7. The first half was hard fought and Fairfax scored only six points, but in the last halfsuperior power won for the visitors. In the second game Langdale played one of their best games, winning from La- Fayette 25 to 0. In the next game Pepperell won when they scored 2l pointsin the first half. The score was 2l to 7. Opelika defeated Langdale 6 to 0 in the next game as they held on the four inch line for the three downs in the last half. After Opelika, Langdale de- feated Riverview 36 to 6 in Riverview. Next came Shawmut, and the Herd was beaten 2I to 6. The last game was a thriller, and West Point was beaten 32 to 27. In basketball, Langdale won l6 games and lost 6. ln the tourna- ment we defeated Beulah, the League Champion, but were beaten in the finals by Fairfax.
