Honor Society Stimulates Academic Achievment Members of the student body who are outstanding in scholarship as well as in service to their school receive special recognition for their accomplishments through induction into the NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY. This select group of students is not just an honorarv organization, but a working club whose se- mestrial projects benefit all studenits. Calcu- lating scholastic averages, procuring and distributing college and scholarshfip material, and keeping the Lane in the News bulletin board up to date are but la few ot the Society's ways of serving our school. These seniors assist the lB division teachers by coming on Orienta- tion doy to help register the new Loneites, to answer the many questions the students always have, and to give the boys information on Lane's traditions and honors. One or two Big Brothers are assigned to each freshman dri- vision-, and during the first few weeks ofthe semester, visiit their divisions every day. After an iniitiial freshman adjustment pseniod, the Big Brothers make once-o-week trips to the divisions to help with the clerical work and make sure the freshmen have no problems, BIG BROTHER Edward Ogato directs freshman George Westlund to o hard-to-find room as hallguard Rich Ockabe looks on.
