LANE'S MATH TEAM, composed of Barry Rosen, Richard Schraeppel, and Peter Kohn, placed first in the annual MAA contest this year, surpassing all other schools in our five states dis- trict. Schroeppel, a 3A, again earned top honors this year by becoming the individual winner with the exceptionally high score of l37.5 points. THE WABENO AWARD, the highest honor a Laneite can receive, was presented to Ken Mazawa, Stanley Klein, Edward Ogata, Carl Rathmann, Theodore Commons, and William Anderson in recognition of their leadership, scholarship, and school service. CONSTRUCTION AND EXPLANATION OF A MSER LIGHT won a first place in physics at the fair for exhibitor Gregory Kozlik.

DISTRICT THREE SCIENCE FAIR comes to Lane bringing participants from Lakeview and Amundsen high schools to compete with Lane students in seven fields. In the Chicago High School System the high- est science awards that students can receive are through participation in the SCIENCE FAIR. The categories in which they may com- pete are biology, chemistry, physics, general science, mathematics, and electronics. Most students participate for the fun and experience they gain rather than for prizes. Scientists Participate in Annual Fair PARTICIPANTS IN T Schulz describe their cinated observers. FINISHING CONSISTENTLY in first and se- cond places, Steve Bukieda and Bernie Cobar led the cross-country team to victories in the St Charles Invitational and the city champion- ship meets. Throughout the ihistory ot interscholastic competition in Chicago, Lane has been lonown as the SCHOOL OF CHAMIPIONS. If it were not for the determination, courage, and ini- tiative of Lane's scholars and athletes, that title would be a imisnomer. Lane is truly proud of the achievements of these individuals who have Ibrought glory and prestige to the School of Champions. ALL-STATE FULLBACK Captain Robert Gibson, high scorer for the team during last season, was honored with the Knute Rockne Award as an outstanding athlete and scholar. Lane's Champions Show Initiative, g Courage and Achievement 259 CITY CHAMPIONS IN TRACK, Dennis Jung and Chuck Maas sparked the team to victory in the city meet by winning the 880 yard run and the triple broad jump.
