The Rifle Team is composed of the best marksmen in the R.O.T.C. Brigade as de- termined by competition held each semester. All competitors fire 22 caliber rifles at official U.S. Army targets fifty feet away. ln this way skill can be easily compared, The top five team members compete in matches against other sche 'pls and must fire well in prone, sit- ting, kneeling, and standing positions. COLOR GUARD is a highly honored group at cadets whose duties include carrying the tlag in parades and at football games, posting the colors at school assemblies, and raising and lowering the sohool's flag in the morning and evening. The Guards are divi- ded into tive strings, each having its own day tor tlag raising. The braided, white, shoulder cards they wear are symbols of membership in this patriotic organization. DISTRICT THREE SCIENCE FAIR comes to Lane bringing participants from Lakeview and Amundsen high schools to compete with Lane students in seven fields. In the Chicago High School System the high- est science awards that students can receive are through participation in the SCIENCE FAIR. The categories in which they may com- pete are biology, chemistry, physics, general science, mathematics, and electronics.
