DRILL TEAM MEMBER Cadet Sgt. Weintrab has his uni- form checked for proper brass alignment by Cadet 2nd Lt. Sanders. The shrill echoes of the drill commander and the sharp clicks of precision movements can be heard resounding through Gym l every morn- ing, zero period. lt is here that the DRILL PLATOON practices and perfects the military art of drilling. The beginning cadet is first given a chance to learn the fundamentals of marching and later he receives training in rifle drill. This year again the Drill Platoon received the Colonel Morrison Trophy as the best unit in Chicago. The championship com- petition was held at the Chicago International Amphitheater and featured the top R,O.T.C. drill plataans in the city. COLOR GUARD is a highly honored group at cadets whose duties include carrying the tlag in parades and at football games, posting the colors at school assemblies, and raising and lowering the sohool's flag in the morning and evening. The Guards are divi- ded into tive strings, each having its own day tor tlag raising. The braided, white, shoulder cards they wear are symbols of membership in this patriotic organization. MEMBF-RS OF THE COLOR GUARD proudly display the flag as they march past a crowd of Laneites at the Sold' ier Field play-off game with Schurz. 255
