From Row: Asher, Hall, Lo savio, Mr. Pegel, Friese, Koczor, Johnson. An excellent record of eleven wins and thnee losses was compiled by the SWIM TEAM last season. One ofthe highlights of the season was the City Meet held early in December, at which the Lane Mermen swam past all compe- tition to secure first place. The Senior and Junior Mermen combined to give an unbelieva- ble performance at the Northwest Relays in which Lane won all seven events While breiaik- ing six records. lnsuiring the safety of the beigiiininiiing swim- mer is ithe major coiniceirn of the LIFEGUARDS. They are on duty to instruct the novice a-nd intermediate swimmers during all swimming classes. ln order to become a lifeguard, a boy must pass a rigid series of tests, including the adminfisteriin-g of mouth to mouth respiration. Their excellent preparation has resulted in a safety record devoid of serious accidents. KEEPING IN CONSTANT PRACTICE, guaras work at endless drills to improve their life saving techniques, trying for speed and ease.

SUMMONING all the speed he can attain, Bob Fitzner rounds third and prepares for a close play at home. Members of the BASEBALL team work to improve their aibility to run, hit, field, and pitch during practices which begin soon after the team is organized in September, This preparation consists of stuidying the finer points of fielding, batting, and pitching. Lost season the value of this training was proven when on-the-diamond practices started in March. When the first practice game rolled around, Lane had a first-rate team, which proved its excellence by compiling an enviable record of twenty vicftories and four losses.
