l Administrators Assist Principal ane's first assistant principal, MR. GEORGE MLTIERDIERKS, obtained his bachelor's and master's degrees in l932.and V936 from the University of Chicago. Coming to Lane in i933, Mr, Meieiclieilfs tapaht German until he became discipline counselor in l939. l-le was appointed to his present position in l948 and has been the sponsor of the Social Center Committee since l 94-9, As Dr. O'Marafs chief assistant, Mr, Meierdierlss handles per- sonnel probiems anrl helps newly assigned and substitute teachers gain familiarity with the organization of the schools As an alumnus of l9l5, MRI ADOLPH STRAKA returned to Lane in l92l to teach machine shop. Because one did not need a college degree to teach shop in the Chicago schools at that time, Mr. Straka was able to wait until V926 to graduate from the Universi- 'ty of Chicago. ln l95l he was appointed to the administrative post he presently holds, Direct- ing the organization and smooth functioning of all shop classes and preparing the school budget are among Mr. Strai4a's primary duties, A Lane alumnus ol l9l7, MR. MILTQN PATTULLO began his teaching career at the Hancock Branch of Tilclen Primo in l92l and returned to Lane in i922 as a mechanical drawing teacher. ln addition to drafting, Mr. Pattullo also taught US. history and served as chairman of the history department tor eight years. Since he principal in March, V959, Mr, Pattullo has became an assistant been responsible for programming teachers and students as well as counseling students with difficulties in academic subjects. After coming to Lane in l936, MR, EMII.
