Dr. Arthur P. O'Mara ..... Principal S PRINCIPAL of one of the busiest and largest high schools in Chicago, Dr. Arthur P. O'Mara has a well-filled sched- ule. He must tend to Lane's administrative os well as its educational needs. This includes arranging for substitute teachers, managing the school's public relations, guiding visitors through the building, entertaining the school's guests, and caring for the personal welfare of the student body by counseling Laneites with special problems and constontly reviewing the school's curriculum. He often drops in unex- pectedly on classes and instructs them. Besides his activities at Lane, Dr. O'Mara teaches a statistics course at Loyola University. Recently he wcis given an honorary award for his work in the evaluation of the Masters of Education program at that institution. He also belongs to many civic organizations, such as lQiwanis, and To many principal's and teacher's organization. Dr. O'Mara began his career in education as a teacher in a one-room rural school. Later i.n l93l, he came to Lane as a math teacher where he instructed many of our present day teachers iiin the fundamentals of mathematics. He soon became chairman of the math depart- ment and later left Lane to become the princi- pal of the Mitchell Elementary and the Hyde Park High schools. Eight years ago Dr. O'Mara returned to Lane as its principal. Dr, O'Mara believes thot Lane is its students, and to Lane's students, Dr. O'Mara is Lane.
