Since the creation of this course in l954, many students have taken advantage of th-e opportunity to learn this skill. Knowledge of the methods involved in typing reports, letters, and business material has provein invaluable to those going on to college as well as those entering the business world. The typing course has proven itself to be very popular with both the novice and the advanced typist. The students, who are specially chosen for their technical ability, work as a group on projects whicih explore the upper reaches of the earth's atmosphere. The most recent projects of the society have been the launchings of instrument packages attach- ed to balloons to gather information on cosmic ray strength, temperature, and the pressure of the atmosphere at various altitudes. Arnold Hetlin W 4 s 1 Junior Scientists Organize Clubs With enthusiasm unabaied by two qualified successes, members of the LANE AMATEUR ROCKET SOCIETY are currently working on their third and fourth rockets. These latest ettorts of the society are destined to be fired at the Fort Bliss, Texas, army base where LARS made its previous attempts. The third rocket will be a more powerful version of the XLR-2 and will carry a beacon trans-mitter tor radar tracking purposes, while the XLR-4 will be a much larger rocket with an instru- ment payload and a nosecone release-recovery meahanism. r AMATEUR ROCKET SOCITETY Standing: Matthas, Maranlz, Pytlik, Nalwaka, Pat- ten. Joseph Eckl Reaching out into the vast darkness of science and technology, memibers of the JETS CLUB are ever in the search of knowledge. Though they meet only once a week, they are in actuality at work every day of the semester creating new problems to be solved and new exhibits of science and engineering. The know- ledge gained from tours, movies, and lectures provides Lane's future engineers with a real understanding of what they will have to accomplish in their future years.
