If the readers of the Lancaster Echo have enjoyed reading the paper as b much as the staff members have enjoyed publishing it, we think we may e certain of its success. It gives the students working on the paper a sense of responsibility and shows us the need for co- ' ' ' taff, operation and gives us some idea as to what is required of a newspaper s We take this opportunity to thank our sponsor - Mrs. Gaiser, for her pa- tience in training us and her helpful ideas. A stranger passed, somehow she reminded me of some one I knew. Who was it? One thought led to another and faces of my former classmates chased each other through my brain. Where were they? What were they doing? As I sat there reminiscing, the warm sun made me drowsy and soon l was fast asleep. In my dreams I was doing what I had always wanted to--touring the world on a magic carpet. This was truly a magic carpet for it had a chauffeur-- none other than Ted Hanni. Up, up, and up we soared. The sky was a beautiful blue and I was thoroughly enjoying watching the clouds fly by when I had the sensation of floating downward. I asked Ted what was happening and he said we were stopping to see Kenny Taylor, Governor of Virginia. Governor Taylor insisted that we join him and his guests for lunch. His guests were Ron Decker, catcher for the Washington Senators and Wayne Meeks, president of the United States in 1960. Of course we knew Wayne had the ability for such an office, but we didn't know he showed it to the public. Things always turn out that way, don't they, Wayne? Again we were traveling through the wild blue yonder. Below us the white caps played hide and seek. Soon the skyline of the great city London appeared on the horizon and our magic carpet hovered over and then began to descend near the Parliament Building. Here we found a famous lawyer debating a case. Be- neath the powdered wig, we recognized Rosemary james. Our next stop was in Paris at the fabulous shop of the inter- nationally famed dress designer, Messieur Charles de Chrystliere. Our flight across the Sahara Desert was very warm and our thirst was great. We decided to stop at the first sign of civil- ization. I had just finished drinking a Coca Cola purchased from a camel caravan when I saw Lorraine Harris in a blacksmith shop. I walked toward the shop hoping I would get a chance to talk to her. As I came closer to this shop I noticed she had seen me. She came running out to greet me. I asked her what she was doing in Egypt! She told me she was operating a blacksmith shop here. I asked her why she had gone into this business and she told me she had always wanted to horse around. We chatted for a while and soon it was time for her to close shop, so I bade her farewell and Ted and l continued our flight. Across the Red Sea Cwhose water is azurej, across the oil fields of Turkey, and across the valleys and rivers of Persia we flew. Below us the vegetation became thicker and thicker, and soon the steaming jungles of India were beneath us. Ted always wanted to hunt lions so we picked out a likely spot along the river and floated to earth. As we wandered into the jungles we found Bob Myers sitting in a puddle of water charming a snake. Bob always did things the long way. Bob, had been commissioned by the Bronx Zoo to bring back alive a boa constrictor. Up, up, up, we soared eastward over The Humpl Immense clouds swirled past and mountain tops were frequently hid from view. Suddenly we jerked to a stop. From the expression on Ted's face I knew the stop was unscheduled. Looking over the edge of the rug, Ted discovered we were snagged on a mountain peak. Try as we might we could not loosen ourselves. As we pondered we became conscious of an ever increasing sound. From among the clouds there appeared a strata-cruiser. None other than Kay Newman was the flight nurse. When she saw our predicament she threw a box to us and motioned we were to swallow the con- tents. The little white pills looked like aspirin, tasted like almonds, and worked wonders for in a moment we were on our wa . yTed thought we better stop at Hong Kong to see if any damage had been done to our rug. While he was checking this, I strolled around the city. I passed through the business section where I noticed a large sign LZ Laundry, velee Quick Washee. My clothes could stand a very quick wash so I entered. To my amazement Jerry Elzey answered the bell. Our next stop was Suava, Fijii Islands. Ted purchased a paper for a souvenir and as he glanced through it. he noticed an ad which read: Free demonstration, Kraft Cheeses, Lucille Reed, demon- strator. Ted had always wanted to see the grass skirt artists, so we headed for the Hawiian Islands. We were directed to a famous dancing school in the hills above Honolulu where Dave Beeler was Arthur Murray's most valued insnuctor. Upon our arrival at the West Coast we went to the CBS studios to see if Mr. Clyde had replaced My Friend Irma as his secretary. We found Marlyn Runyon waiting to be interviewed for this position. She told us that Rose Marie Moser worked just down the hall and of course we had to drop in to see her. Her office door was marked: Max Factor Studio, Rose Marie, Make Up Advisor. Our magic carpet travelled the Catcus Trail to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Wanting some Indian jewelry we visited the Indian Reservation. Several children were playing the sun, but went scurrying inside when a bell sounded. Looking through the window we saw Peg Frauhiger, Primer in hand, standing before the class. Floating eastward we approached the Grand Canyon where a beautiful garden of flowers caught our attention. Weeding the flowers was Colleen Decker. l asked her why she was a florist. Here, she told me she had always wanted a rock garden and flowers too, so she thought this was the ideal spot. Faster and faster our carpet sped above the amber fields of grain and soon the blue waters of Lake Michigan could be seen. When we got over Chicago we began to drift down-ward and gently settled in Tarr's Used Car Lot. Just as we were about to enter the large garage adjoining the lot, Max came out on his way home to lunch. He invited us to go with him and of course we accepted for we wanted to visit with him. During the drive to his home we were so busy telling him the news of the class of '54 that we didn't give Max a chance to say much. As we drove into his driveway the front door opened and Betty Meeks ran out to greet us. After a delicious lunch we drove back downtown with Max. We said our goodbyes and were just ready to step on our magic carpet when someone grabbed us from behind. It was Marilyn Gearhart, an F.B.l. agent who said, Aren't you Sue Green? I just want to get the facts, just the facts. We were too astonished to answer and this brought on a severe shaking from Marilyn. We started to allege our innocence when I realized that the voice was unfamiliar and quite masculine. Opening my eyes I discovered a friendly park cop who thought I might be ill rather than asleep.
