Miss Alden.
Last year eleven girls and six boys began their high school days with four
years to look forward to. At the beginning of the semester, we were believed
to have much greenness in us. but most of it was worn off by our initiation
sponsored by the Senior class.
We enjoyed our Freshman year of school, and hope we will encounter the
same pleasures throughout the next three years. Our first party we had was
a Halloween Party held at Barbara Poe's home. We also kept ourselves quite
busy during the winter months by attending the basketball games. The boys
who participated in basketball were Richard Gamble, Ralph Gillespie, Howard
Dunifon, Calvin Huffine, and Graydon Nihiser. After the basketball season.
we held a skating party at the Y. W. C, A.. which we enjoyed in spite of the
many tumbles.

The determination to make this year a memorable one, urged us to carry on
many activities. which all of us enjoyed.
Early in the year a private party was held for the class at the home of Mary
Louise Davies. We enjoyed games, a hay ride, and refreshments.
On March 9, we held a skating party at the Y. W. C. A. Wa.s the floor slip-
pery, or was it just us?
We presented an assembly program on November 14.
We were proud to have three boys, Marvin Fisher, John Snyder, and Rich-
ard Ireton on the first team in basketball this year. Another, Carl Nihiser, is
on the second team.
Our class has been changing in size some since the last annual was printed.
Charles Mathews is the only one Whom we welcome to our class, but six have
left. James Lauck moved to York, Frank Trembly to Detroit, Philip Gluth and
Thelma Stegaman to Van Wert High and Cleo McMichael and Gene Huffine are
both married.

The 1941-42 Ridge Tigers. as the records show, experienced a season which
found them playing very mediocre ball one week and an excellent brand of ball
the next. They were a team we enjoyed watching and one which we were proud
to support. The services of our lanky dependable Center Harold Dunifon, will
be sorely missed next year, but with that exception we hope we will see all of the
boys in action again next season. Promising 8th grade material gives us hopes of
a strong team for 1942-43. .

The reservebasketball team. which represents Ridges hopes for future champ-
ionships. made a credible showing in this sport during the season of 1941--12.
They won more than half of the games they participated in, and showed re-
markable progress during the season. The boys are quite disappointed because
the Junior High Tournament was Cancelled this year.
They are looking iorvxard to positions on the varsity next year, and several
show promise of becoming quite capable replacements.

The girls' chorus for 1941-42, under the direction of the new instructor. Mr.
Truman Eberly, enjoyed participating in and presenting several programs
throughout the school year. The annual Christmas program, in which the girls'
chorus had a major part. was presented on the afternoon of December 24.
The girls' chorus and members of the girls' chorus presented numbers at both
sessions of the Farmers' Institute.
Another event of interest to the group was the County Music Festival at Wren
School on March 3. The girls sang in the mass chorus. and presented individual
numbers.
Members of the chorus were keenly disappointed by the elimination of the
Springfield and State Festivals from the school calendar. This, like many other
things, was made necessary by the shortage of rubber.
The chorus regrets the departure of several Senior girls who have served well
during the past four years.

Still under the system adopted last year of applying for rather than appoint-
ing positions on the Rocket staff, and with the splendid cooperation of Miss Mallory.
Miss Alden. and their patrons. the members of the Rocket staff were able to produce
eight issues of the Ridge Rocket during the nine months of the school term.
At the beginning of the term a contest was held for the greatest number of
subscriptions, the losing side giving a party in honor of the winners.
Despite the great deal of effort and time required for each issue, there was
always the deep satisfaction of just being one of the links that make up the chain.
Because of the present world strife, we regret to say that the Ridge Rocket may
be discontinued until the situation is again more favorable.

school, which was transformed into a beautiful rock garden. A pool was in the
middle, surrounded by stones, flowers, and brilliantly colored lights. Decorations
of blue and white streamers and .small branches were strung over the top, while a
fence and streamers served as the sides. An arched gateway formed the entrance
to the garden, above which blazed the numbers 41-42 in blue and white lights.
A picture taken by the Agler Studio preceded the evenings program, after
which motion pictures were shown by the toastmaster, William Wilcox.

4-H CLUB MOTTO-TO MAKE THE BEST BETTER
Both the girls and boys 4-H clubs had full and interesting programs this year.
Both clubs had meetings twice a month. The girls enjoyed demonstrations on
posture, pressing clothes, hair styles. and cooking. On July 10, we had a joint
meeting with the boys' 4-H club. We had a soft ball game at 6:00 o'c1ock which
was followed by a pot-luck supper. After the program, Miss Shrider led the
group in a delightful evening of folk dancing.
On August 11. the girls' projects were judged. Every girl had worked hard
and therefore all were rewarded with very good grades. After the judging. we
went to Celina for a picnic supper.
September 26th, a county-wide achievement meeting was held at the fair
ground. Martha Eaken and Bette Davies represented the Ridge club and gave a
demonstration on Packing a Suitcase Conveniently. They won from the county
and then represented Van Wert County at the State Fair. Both girls went with
Mr. Oetzel, the county agricultural agent, to Fort Wayne and broadcasted over
WOWO. Esther Faller was selected from our club to judge clothing. She won
from the county and then went to the State Fair and competed. For her good
work she won a gold medal.
The girls displayed their projects in a booth at the Van Wert County Fair.
The boys paraded their animals in the stock parade. Richard Holland had the
prize steer in the county.
Our projects were also displayed at the Farmers' Institute which was held
February 10-11.
Bette Davies and David Poe were chosen to attend Club Congress at Columbus.
September 8-13.

the Roman Empire?

Charles: Blue vitrolf'
Martha Eaken: I'll bet you can't guess how I

Ida Mae Swick: K-a-t, k-a-t-t, c-a-t?
Martha Eaken: Youre wrong. I spelled it
c-a-t!
Miss Rinker: What is neon used for?
Dick Kinsey: To make stockings.
Dave Poe: Did you have the radio on last
night?
Marvin Fisher: Sure I did.

Mary Gillespie: No, I used a three-leaf
clover. The daisy might turn out wrong.
Girl: Would you come to my aid in distress?
Boy: My dear it wouldn't make any difference
what you were wearing.
Esther F.: Charles Mathews has a contempt

Must I put it on myself?
Post Office Assistant: Not necessarily, mam,
it will probably accomplish more on the letter.
Don Crow: I've had to keep that car in the
garage ever since the day I bought it from you, It
just won't run.
Ted Gorman: You remember you said you
wanted a car that wouldn't use much gas.
Dick Ireton: Take this chicken away, it's as
tough as a paving stone.
Miss Rinker: Maybe it's a Plymouth Rock.
Ted Gorman: My feet burn like heck. Do
you suppose a mustard bath would help?
Maxine Uncapher: Sure, there's nothing bet-
ter than mustard on hot dogs.
Charlotte Black: If you were half a man you'd
take me to the circus tomorrow,
Carl Nihiser: If I were half a man I'd be in
the circus.
Father: Don't you think our son gets his in-

Mother: He must, I've still got mine.
Mr. Gluth: Do you know your wife is telling

Mr. Witten: That's nothing, I bought her a

SCHOOL SONG
Fight the team across the floor.
Show them that Ridge is here:
Set the walls 1'everbe1'ating
With a mighty cheer.
Rah! Rah! Rah!
Stand up straight. as straight as
Never let that team get the ball,
Hail, hail, the gangs all here.
So let's beat our opponents now.
