The following article was taken from the Lancaster Echo October 15 1948
Miss Harriet Brekel a member of the class of 1940 has returned from the tour See
America First Her trip was made possible bv winning the Pot of Gold which is given

During my tour of America I met several of my former classmates and learned about
many of the others who were rn our class As I thought this would interest those who
are rn school now I am writing you a sketch of my trip
We left Bluffton early rn the morning and our first stop was at Bloomington for lunch
After we had seated ourselves at the tables a very familiar figure came to get our order
It was none other than Betty Lash She mformed me that she was working rn her spare
time to help finance her senior year rn Indiana University We immediately began dis
cussrng the whereabouts of other members of the class Betty told me that Tom Irvin had
met with a terrible tragedy about three years ago It seems that Vera had married an
other and left 'lom completely heartbroken To forget his grief he wandered around
armlesslv for several months and finally built a log cabin down in the hills of Kentucky
and is living the life of a hermit Betty then asked me where some of our other classmates
Well as we all expected Roscoe entered Purdue University for a course rn Engineer

Lancaster Township and is now managing a five hundred acre farm Glen Moser and
Dwight Kehrn are operating a factory rn Crargvrlle for the manufacture of Television
radios Annabel Snider rs studying in a semrnarv in Ohio preparing her self as a mission

one another good luck
Our route now was taking us still farther west and we were passing through the
state of Missouri As we rode along I was thinking of Gloria Hughes and wondering how
she was getting along with the riding academy which she was managing
After a few days of pleasant traveling across the plains we arrrx ed at Colorado
Springs for a short stay They took us through several clinics and when passing through
one of these whom should I meet but Leonard Stuff who said he had been lrxrng there
for several months due to poor health caused by mtense studying in high school and college
From here we Went to Yellowstone National Park On entering the park a guide
boarded our bus and informed the driver just where to take us As soon as the guide en
tered our bus I knew there seemed to be something familiar about his actions Being
urrous to know just who he was I asked the bus drrx cr He said he was the Scout Er.
ecutrve Gilbert Bynum As soon as the bus stopped I had an opportunity to talk with
him He said that being a guide wasnt his regular duty but due to the fact that the
guide was off duty for the day he was temporarily filling his place He wanted to knovv
what I was doing way out there and I explained how I had had the opportunrtx of taking
the trip He also wanted to know where I was employed and I told him I was still
working as a bookkeeper at the Lmcoln Life Insurance Company He said he knew where
most of the class were all but John Crago and Louise Derhl He said he had received a
