IOSEPH JULSON Because Ioe's fellow boarders realized the interest that foe took in their welfare, he was elected Dorm Council secretary in his senior year, even though he had been at Lakeside for only one year. foe faithfully turned out for Parsons basketball and baseball and made sweet music with his trombone in the band. His ability was not limited, for he always earned the G-old Star. LA WRENCE KANGLEY Larry, a boarder for the last two years, was one of the earliest members of the 1953 class. An active Parson, he worked hard for his club, participating in many sports. For two years he saw action on the varsity B basketball squad. FREDERICK JAMES LONG Fred entered Lakeside as a day boy in September, 1950. Whit- comb Club sports used Fred's services for three years and varsity football had them for two years. This year he received a letter in football. He was chairman of the Library Committee, a big L Club and Outing Club member. Fred was faithful at all basketball games and made sure that the basketball statistics were correct. ROBERT L. MANLOWE In his three-year stay at Lakeside, Bob earned fame not only in the classroom but also on the athletic field. As a quarterback for this year's championship football team and as a reliable point getter in basketball, Bob earned varsity awards and membership in the Big L 1Clu.b. Having been on the Honor Roll and the Gold Star consistently while at Lakeside, Bcb is one of our best students. But his activities were not limited to the classroom and the athletic field, as he was on the TATLER staff as a sports writer in his sophomore and senior years, was treasurer of the Brownell Club, and Senate representative for three years. PETER HEI SER Editor of this year's NUMlD'IAN, Pete has done well in the five years he has been at Lakeside. He has been on the Gold Star, the Honor Roll for all but two quarters, and in his sophomore year won the Lincoln Forum. Also active in athletics, Pete is a two-year letterman in varsity football and has turned out for track for three years. HAROLD S. HELLIESEN Hal, a Yakima boy, entered Lakeside in his freshman year. Destined for an athletic career, he lettered in four sports: basket- ball, football, baseball, and tennis. Hal's roster of activities includes such organizations as the big Lv Club, Athletic Council, Dorm Council, and the Senate. ALFRED BARKER HERMAN Barkey is conceded to be the smoothest of the Portland boys as far as girls go, but his social life does not over-shadow the ex- cellent leadership which he has shown throughout his three years at Lakeside. Having served on the Dorm Council for three years, he is now vice president of this body, as well as being vice president of the Student Body and president of the Senate. He has done an outstanding job in all three offices. OLIVER McMAHAN HUFF Ollie's Lakeside career has been long and illustrous, from a seventh grader to president of the Dorm Council. He is very capable with a paint brush and has won many art awards with his truly great genius for expressing himself on canvas. Athletically, Mac has won two letters in track, politically, he has held such offices as freshman class secretary-treasurer, sophomore class secretary, junior class treasurer, and Student Body treasurer in his senior year. 'IOHN MIFFLIN A day boy, Iohn is another founder of the Class of '53, al- though he spent his sophomore year at Queen Anne. An active TATLER photographer and, in his senior year, a Library Commit- teeman, Iohn will long be remembered for his able work as varsity football, basketball, and baseball manager, as well as his helpful attitude, his wise business ventures, and his big red truck. PETER M ORBECK Pete is the newest Lakesider, having come in his senior year from Kellogg High School in Idaho where he was a two-year letterman and a member of the band for three years. At Lakeside he has been a very able participant in Brownell sports and the Drama and Ski Clubs. Pete is a boy who always has a smile and a good word for his classmates and is a conscientious student. SIGURD 1. NORMAN Extraordinary scholar, ever since the seventh grade Sigurd has consistently been on the Gold Star list and Honor Roll. He has also been an active participant in club football and baseball, helping the Parson's win many victories. Besides writing for the NUMI- DIAN, being a member of the Senate, and receiving a President's Medal in his freshman year, the offices held by Sigurd make an impressive list: treasurer of his sophomore class, secretary of his junior class, and secretary of the Student Body in his senior year. IUDSON McDONALD PARSONS Iudson is one of the few charter members of our class. He entered in 1947 as a day boy. During his stay at Lakeside, Iud has done many things. Fall and winter find Iud at the rifle range, but in the spring he is helping the Parson track team. Iud has been on the yell squad for two years, and was sergeant-at-arms of his fresh- man class. Iud is a fine artist and has entered several pictures in contests. Fourteen
