Was: '- - - A RAHS The 1978 - 79 Varsity Cheerleaders have shown their belief in the Rams. During the school year they cheered for the various Lakeside teams, both girls and boys. To promote better school spirit and sportsmanship, the members made signs to decorate the halls and spon- sored football and basketball parties. The Varsity Cheerleaders worked hard even before school started. They went to a cheerleading camp at Jonesboro and earned numerous awards: five superior ribbons, a super star ribbon, the spirit stick, the first place trophy in their division, and the award of Excellence fthe highest award givenj. YS IIIID GIRIS STIITE Boys and Girls State: back row - John Varnedore, Kurt Johnston, Ernie Cook, front row - Lori George, Kim Foster Three boys and two girls were chosen to represent Lakeside as del- egates to Boys and Girls State. This is a significant honor because sever- al students are carefully reviewed by members of the faculty scholarship committee, which is appointed by the principal. The students reviewed are selected according to their scho- lastic achievements, character, and service, not only to their school, but also to their community and church. The purpose of Boys and Girls State is to provide a better under- standing of the local, state, and na- tional governmental procedures. During the students' stay at Boys and Girls State, a mock government is established. Each delegate is re- quired to campaign for an official po- sition. After the election of officials, the winners preside over their du- ties, taking their governmental re- sponsibilities seriously and making important decisions. Each delegate who has attended Boys and Girls State returns to his community with a deeper appreciation and a better understanding of his or her govern- ment. , , cm, rf 1-.f...W, I A T K I W fffdfvggeyl s Flag Raisers: left to right- John Edwards, David Shipper, Mike Rathbun. and Mike Jones. -g-, nw . i 'f 1 141
