General Math I and ll provide a strengthening of the basic skills which form a foundation for further math- ematics studies. Algebra I students learn the be- ginning principles of Algebra, while algebra II stu- dents continue a more advanced program. Ge- ometry is the study of math dealing with the rela- tionships between points, lines, planes, and so- lids. Advanced math and analytic geometry is a combination of Algebra I and ll and geometry and therefore requires these subjects as a prerequi- site.

BUSIIIESS Lakeside's business curriculum expanded this year. The new courses added were Shorthand ll and introduction to business. Shorthand ll includes learning transcription and use of the IBM transcription machine. The second semester emphasis is placed on speed building. Introduction to business was offered to freshmen who spent three weeks in typing class learning the letter keyboard. These students also explored the fields of shorthand, filing, office machines, accounting, and careers related to these fields. Students of business law kept a scrapbook of newspaper articles on legal matters, studied felonies and misdemeanors, made posters of the court system in Arkansas and learned about the cost of going to court and hiring a lawyer. With these classroom activities, the business education de- partment hopes to prepare its students for today's active business world. ,wwf-M7 MM, :Lv ' ---w V V, , .,.. The Lakeside Art Depart- ment's curriculum encourages the appreciation of expression in the fine arts and the pursuit of personal creativity. With proper guidance in art each student can develop his imagination, can learn to think more deeply in a practical and organized way, and begin to see things in a way he has never seen them before. Art I is a basic studio-orientation class with emphasis on design as it applies to all areas of the fine arts. Students learn the proper use of the various media and are introduced to the study of art history. Art ll is a continuation of studies in design and art history with emphasis on drawing, painting, sculpture, print- making, and commercial art. Art Ill consists of independent study in the areas of painting, drawing, sculpture, art history, and commercial art. During the year Lakeside art students' work was exhibited in numerous shows throughout the state. Students in the art department volunteered many hours to assist with homecoming set designs, various school activities, and numerous civic and community organizational activities. ,f fu-sf at Q A f 1 iz' ,iv 4 ,Li - sf it it K 'J N X ff t tw 5 f ..,,', -av , ' ,xx W V ---.i fpff 1 me L18- 15 2 .
