The Lakeside CHORAL DE- PARTMENT has grown in total enrollment from 60 to 130 in the past two years. In November, 19 choir students auditioned individually for All-Re- gion Choir in Arkadelphia. Seven- teen made the All-Region Choir and two were first alternates. In January, 1978, those in All- Region Choir auditioned in Conway for All-State Choir. Four students made All-State Choir. In March, 1978, the Girls Cho- rus, Bel Canto, and the Madrigals competed in the Region Choir Fes- tival in Arkadelphia. All groups qualified to go to State competition. Bel Canto and Madrigals made all superior ratings. In April, the Choirs competed in the State Choir Festival in Conway. All groups earned high ratings with the Bel Canto again scoring three superior ratings. Three students were chosen to Who's Who in Music.

ROTC The Lakeside R.O.T.C. department has led a busy schedule for the year of '77-'78. This began with a Pentatholon September 24 sponsored by O.B.U. Brian Burroughs for his third year in a row took top honors while Lakeside placed second and fifth out of twenty entries. Lakeside then competed at an Orienteering meet sponsored by Arkansas Tech on November 5. Lakeside finished first and second respectively. The Lakeside Rifle team fired in its first of many meets November 19 at U.C.A. Lakeside took first place team easily with Tommy Cooper winning high individual honors. The rifle team then traveled to Arkansas Tech, December 2 and 3 for a large invitational meet held there. Lakeside again received first place team awards at both meets with Holmes Scott and Tommy Cooper taking top aggregate awards. On December 9 Lakeside hosted a Lakeside vs. Watson Chapel meet held at Lakeside. A varsity and freshmen team from both schools were allowed to fire in competition. Lakeside took top honors in both categories with Holmes Scott and Mark Foshee taking top individual honors. Other activities in the R.O.T.C. schedule include an orienteering meet March 18 sponsored by Southern Arkansas University, a rifle meet to be held March 31 at Henderson, a Lakeside vs. Arkansas and Louisiana rifle meet to be held April 15, another rifle meet in Shreveport Louisiana April 29 and finally Lakeside is in the running again for top national honors in a rifle meet held at Rogers, Arkansas May 5, 6, and 7. This to be the second year in which Lakeside cadets have ranked among the top 120 participants to compete, with 180,000 nationwide entries. This also proves to be the fourth year in a row in which the Lakeside Rif1e team has taken first place team at every meet it has attended and high individual at each one of these meets also ranks among its accomplishments.
