One of the main projects of this group is sponsoring programs for the Middle School Special Educa- tion class taught by Mrs. Segal. Parties are given for the special education students two or three times a year, usually during the holiday season. These programs include games, stories, refreshments, and favors. In April, the FTA sponsors Teacher Appreciation Day. Teachers receive special recognition through flowers, cookies, cards, and fruit. Finally, during the year members tutor elementary and middle school students. Meetings are held once a month at various members' homes with potluck dinners and occasionally guest speakers. The Lakeside Chapter of FTA is 50 years old this year and was the first chapter in the state of Arkansas to receive a charter. A scrapbook has been prepared to show the accomplishments through the years and is to be presented at the state convention.
