V A I 71' QQ 1 was 1 , or I . , Q, wp'-5 lthough scholastics did play the most important role, sports played a considerable part in the stu- dents' lives. There was a boys' basketball team coached by Mr. Bill Simpson and a girls' team coached by Mrs. E.L. Terry. Although the basketball play- ers didn't have much opportuni- ty to practice fonly at lunch and during morning and afternoon breaksj they did win a number of games. At that time, Cutter Morning Star was Lakeside's greatest rival. Both boys' and girls' teams had an endless supply of spirit and sportsmanship. Before each game, the players would gather and join in prayer and a pep talk was heard from Coach Simpson. A sense of comradeship existed between the players. They played the game together as a group rather than as individ- uals. They gave it all they had and in essence started the phrase, Rams never quit!

ep assemblies were a spontaneous rally. Whenever anyone felt the urge to speak, he addressed the entire audience. The cheer- leaders, players, teachers, coaches, principal and fans all contributed to the spirit-rousing assemblies. The students must have really enjoyed basketball games be- cause often they would endure a lot to watch the game. The games were played outisde on a dirt court, even in the coldest weather, and there were no bleachers for the fans. Other than basketball, only two other sports were played - baseball and track. However, the Rams excelled in basketball. As you flip through the pages of the 1978 RAM, we hope you will join the Ramstaff in cele- brating our fifty years of build- ing, growing, and sharing. We hope you are as proud of Lake- side as we have grown to be. 5 -'nf I -. - , E-gi. .. f R- 'wmelr V, 'K . ff na' 4 , ,M s- . , .A ' ft 1 ,ff . fl' f ', l' , ,. - 1-.ii 1:1 - ,f,,iijr-.15 A f:A,., .a ,U , .xi--Q 'Ti3T'?'1 '- 1 ,, ,,,m,,, M, is v i !' if E1
