 NOT QUITE FOUR That's right the 1981 Varsity Boys Soccer Season ended abrubtly when they were beat for the first time in the entire season during the state playoffs. The regular season was one of success and injuries. Within the first five games the team was hit by a plague in injuries that sidelined a majority of the senior members. These problems went to the advantage of the team when it was discovered that the people off fhe bench were equally as strong as the people out with injuries. This was proven through such crushing defeats as: LHS vs. Canby where the score was eight to one and LHS vs. Estacada where the Pacers buried them in the turf with a score of ten to one. For the whole season, the varsity blasted its opponents sixty-three to six. After winning the Willamette Valley League crown, the Pacers were “rigged and ready for state. In the opening game against Gladstone at Civic Stadium, the varsity won four to nil. Kent Jensen racked up a hat-trick (three goals) to bring his season total to an outstanding twenty-nine. Rich Ramakers earned the other goal by exploding a shot from the top of the box putting it through a mass of defenders and into the back of the net. In the following quarter final game to the shock of the players and fans, the Pacers were beat one to nil. This concluded a season that started a number six rating in the team polls and moved up to number one. 16 SOCCER
