Wrestlers Demonstrate Individual Pride Wrestling Squad: Back row: Coach Steve Thorn, Delwin Smith, David Anderson, Brad Hesby, Paul Mobley, Dan Holm, Asst. Coach Monte Mason. Front row: Doug Brown, Todd Carlson, Curt Virchow, Todd Stevens, Jay Carlson, Greg Hesby. Right: Wrestling Cheerleaders Dawn Mi- kelson, Mary Jensen, Linda Jensen, Daw- nette Hovde. This year wrestling at LPHS lived up to its billing as an indi- vidual sport. In several dual meets the scores for matches actu- ally contested would have given the Divers a victory but forfeits in the upper weight classes resulted in a loss for the team. This does show that most of the wrestlers did have successful seasons individually; a result of hard training, dieting, and desire in- spired by Coach Steve Thorn and Assistant Coach Monte Ma- son. Two Diver grapplers qualified for the region tournament in Dell Rapids this year. David Anderson placed third in the 145 pound division, and Todd Stevens won the 112 pound division, quali- fying him for the state B tournament in Watertown. 28

This years football players re- ceived alot of experience that will be beneficial in the upcoming years. The number of players be- came a problem towards the end of the season due to injuries. On the injured list were sophomore Greg Hesby, whose quarterback position was replaced by Todd Steven who came up from the backfield. Also, runningback Da- vid Anderson broke a finger in the Homecoming game and Scott Tol- zin received an injured knee in the later part of the season. Since six gridders are graduating this year the team may find it nec- essary to depend on incoming freshman to cut down on the shortness of man power. Top: Now what was the count on?
