FFA Has A Very Rewarding Year FFA, FIRST ROW: Kyle Hesby, Treasurer; Rick Osvog, Secretary; Gary Ellingson, Reporter; Dave Hell and, Sentinel; Randy Ode gaard, Vice President; Rodney Palmlund, President. SECOND ROW: Mark Odden, Randy Nelson, Randy Olson, Bryan Sneesby, Jim Olson, Mike Gates, Mayo Muser, Advisor, Mr. Dagel. THIRD ROW: Wayne Weink, Reed Hauck, Paul Casper, Jerome Nelson, Doug Severson, Keith Nelson, Leslie Iseminger, Bob Nesseim. FOURTH ROW: Lyle Palmlund, Alden Boyd, Ryan Olson, Wayne Lundquist, DanTolzin, GaryNoem, Shane Nelson, Allen Vedvei, Kevin Lund - quist, Steve Steffensen. Randy Odegaard rated high in the peo- ple's world as he was named top FFA (Star) State Farmer for the year. Randy was the first Lake Preston student who was ever won this top designation. To receive this title, Randy worked very hard on swine, cattle and crops projects at his father's farm. 1.972-73 was a very productive and active year for the LPHS Future Farmers of America under the guidance of Mr. Tom Dagel. Some of their activities included a slave auction in mid-winter, and citrus fruit sales. They were also involved in Pheasants Unlimited, which is a pro- ject to raise young pheasants and release them in the area. Their annual Parent-Son Banquet was held on May 11 where awards were presented and new officers installed. Gary Ellingson, Lyle Palmlund and Rick Osvog went to the National FFA Convention in Kansas City in the fall. Several FFA members at- tended the State Convention in Brookings on April 8-10. This proved to be an exciting three days for the Lake Preston chapter received several individual and team honors in judging competition conducted in con- juction with this convention. Judging played an important part in the FFA activities. Several mem- bers participated in land judging in Wessington Springs. LPHS was also represented in judging contests at the Dakota Winter Show in Huron, Little International at SDSU, Morrell's in Sioux Falls, Refield and De- Smet. During the summer, Keith Nelson, Jim Olson and Dave Helland attend- ed a state FFA camp held June 3-6 at Madison. Yes, it definitely proved to be a rewarding year for the LPHS Future Farmers of America. 24
