The Future Homemakers of America again led a busy but fun year, full of activit- ies worth while for the entire school and community. This organization started off with a bang, when they initiated the freshmen as new members in September. A chapter mother's tea at the beginning of the year acquainted the new chapter mothers with FHA and their duties. October was the month for the annual State FHA Meetings at Huron. Lake Preston delegates who attended the meeting returned home with new ideas and greater understanding of FHA. Foreign exchange students who stayed at Old- ham were guest speakers at one of the meetings. They talked to the FHA'ers about their people's world in France and Philippines. Money making projects for the year in- cluded Daddy Date night and the FHA Carnival. The Snowball Dance, sponsored by the FHA, was a highlight of the year. The Ride provided the music for the exciting night of fun and dancing. Effie Falconer and Rick Osvog from the senior class, were crowned Snowball Queen and King. To add to the spirit of Christmas, the girls decor- ated the high school and brightened up the place a little. The beef cook-off was a highlight of FHA in the sophomore home-ec. classes. Each girl was asked to prepare five pounds of short ribs for the competition. The DeSmet chapter were visitors to one of the FHA meetings when Mrs. Harold Nelson gave the girls a demonstration on cake decorating. Indeed, the FHA Regional Meeting was one of the biggest events for the Lake Preston chapter. This meeting at Erwin on March 26 took much co-operation and work from the girls. The theme of the meeting was Love Comes In All Colors emphasing brotherhood. Being Chairman of Region 11, Renita Thomsen was in charge of this meeting and presided over it. The first week of April was a special week for the FHA'ers as they participated in a busy FHA week consisting of different activities each day. A combined activity towards the end of the year was the mother-daughter banquet and style show. The whole event was centered around the theme The Old Woman In the Shoe . The waiters, chosen by the girls, were dressed as little boys and girls. The installation of the new officers closed the exciting evening. Rounding up another year, the Lake Preston FHA'ers enjoyed a senior farewell picnic and party held in honor of the graduating senior FHA'ers. 22
