He won't give his real reason, that his wife seemingly has a heart condition. Jimmy decides that if he can't go out for the football team, there isn't much reason for his going to school. George Wells, a friendly policeman, persuades him to return to Ms classes, where he hands in a forged excuse. As soon as his teacher realizes this she takes it straight to Jimmy's parents. When Jimmy comes home, the old argument is vigorously re- newed. Soon, Mrs. Knox is complaining of her heart; Dr. Knox insists on calling in a physician; and Jimmy storms out of the house and drives recklessly away in the family car. It is then that the minister discovers that his wife has been pretending her heart condition, as an excuse to keep her son close to her at home. The revelation comes too late to save Jimmy. Angry and des- pairing, he has blindly driven the car into an intersection, striking down a pedestrian and severely injuring him. Panic- stricken, Jim runs away from the scene of the accident. In the morning, he must go into Juvenile Court - there to prove him- self a mere boy ... or a man.

FHA’ers Pursue Wide Range Of Activities The Future Homemakers of America have seen another year filled with good deeds and fun times within the community. Among their activities was a field trip to Sioux Falls where they toured Morrel's Packing Plant, Stewarts School of Hair Styling and the Crippled Children's Home. For the younger generation the FHA girls had a Little Brother Night. They each brought a little boy to the meeting to play games and eat lunch. One of the money raising projects of the year was Daddy Date Night. Each girl pre- pared a box of goodies and invited her daddy along. The boxes were then auctioned off to the men. A Foreign Foods Supper was also sponsored by the FHA. Various types of foods from foreign countries were served. FHA's yearly dance was a Sadie Hawkins Dance this year. Everyone came dressed hillbilly style and whoever dared were married by Marryin1 Sam. Two highlights at the end of the year were the Mother Daughter Banquet and Secret Grand- mother's Tea. The banquet was centered around the theme The Wizard of Oz. Reverend John Tanner gave an inspiring speech on love and preparation for marriage. New officers for the coming year were installed to close the banquet. The Secret Grandmother's Tea was held to reveal the identities of the Secret Granddaughters who had been corresponding with elderly ladies throughout the year. To finish off the fun-filled year a Senior Farewell Party was held to wish the graduating seniors good luck and best wishes. For the FHA, this was certainly a year that was. Renita Thomsen was elected State Vice-President of Public Relations and chairman of Region II. 24
