This proved to be a very successful year for the student council having accomplished the goal of a lounge after years of compromises. One of their monthly duties was to choose a hard- working student as Student of the Month. Many hours were also devoted to revising the handbook. Consisting of several tables, couches, chairs and a pop machine for refreshments, the lounge provided an excel- lent place for the students to relax and converse.

“Proof Of A Man” Director...................Miss Mildred Bueber CAST Dr. Tolbert........................ Dean Cecil Dr. Knox.........................Merrill Nelson Officer Wells.......................Arden Jones Helen Knox.......................... Mary Bode Mrs. Price........................Pam Lundquist Jimmy Knox................................Terry Aalbers Jimmy Knox wants to go out for the football team, but Jimmy's father, a local minister, stubbornly refuses his permission. He won't give his real reason, that his wife seemingly has a heart condition. Jimmy decides that if he can't go out for the football team, there isn't much reason for his going to school. George Wells, a friendly policeman, persuades him to return to Ms classes, where he hands in a forged excuse. As soon as his teacher realizes this she takes it straight to Jimmy's parents. When Jimmy comes home, the old argument is vigorously re- newed. Soon, Mrs. Knox is complaining of her heart; Dr. Knox insists on calling in a physician; and Jimmy storms out of the house and drives recklessly away in the family car. It is then that the minister discovers that his wife has been pretending her heart condition, as an excuse to keep her son close to her at home. The revelation comes too late to save Jimmy. Angry and des- pairing, he has blindly driven the car into an intersection, striking down a pedestrian and severely injuring him. Panic- stricken, Jim runs away from the scene of the accident. In the morning, he must go into Juvenile Court - there to prove him- self a mere boy ... or a man.
