KNEELING, The '67-’68 year started off with a bang as the LPHS marching band won the Class A and the overall championship for precision marching. The marching competition was held in Huron, South Dakota, on October 14,1967 At the Pow Vow Day celebration, the band first marched in the parade, then in the competition, and stayed for the football game that night march- ing for the half-time entertainment. The tro- phy they received had DeSmet 1965,Q d Scotland 1966 previous to Lake Preston on it. The show the band did was a precision-drill routine with Hey Look Us Over as the theme. They played Hey Look TJs Over , Hostrauser' s March, and E Plurbis Unum. They started in block band, formed a three- company front, and played a fanfare. The band then moved to a double V signifying victory. They went from a V to a diamond and then back to block band. They made a victorious exit and marched off with a trophy. The marching band lead the annual Blue and Gold Day Parade. After the parade they per- formed the marching routine for the public. The marching band ended the school year by participating in the Memorial Day Parade.

First Row: Jean Kopperud, Kathy Shaw, Jean Nelson, Arlene Rassmussen, Winnie Olson, Susan Bode, Janet Wienk, Elaine Nelson, Margaret Svihel. The A Band had various concerts throughout the year. The Pops Concert, held November 16, 1967» was the first of three. Some selections were Music to Watch Girls By , Hello Dolly , 650 East , and Sandpaper Ballet . The public was served pie and coffee. On January 16, 1968, the Mid-Winter Concert was held. Highlights of the concert were Magic Trumpet , Dixieland Jamboree , Highlights from 'The King and I1 , and the Storm King . The big event of the year was the Spring Concert held on April 24» 1968. The A Band, B Band, and Stage Band participated in the concert. Various musical numbers were: Highlights from 'Mary Popping' , National Enblem , English Folk Song Suite , Capitol Hill , Put a Shine on Your Shoe , Appalachian Fantasy , Entire State Salute , Coral and Capriccio , and Sunday Morning . The band made a trip to Brookings for the contest and received an Excellent. The last concert was presented on Memorial Day May 30, 1968. On the Mall , and America the Beautiful are two of the selections. This concluded a very eventful year. 27
