Carolyn Strieker, Janice Thorsvold, Cheryl Hagen, Sally Green, Delaine Abel, Paul Nelson, Kenneth Olson, Paul Danielson, Danny Nelson, Allen Zeeck. BLUE AND GOLD DAY Blue and Gold Day activities for 1963 started with the coronation on Thursday night,September 19. Delaine Abel and Paul Nelson were crowned king and queen. Their attendants were as follows: Sally Green and Kenneth Olson, seniors; Cheryl Hagen and Paul Danielson juniors; Janice Thorsvold and Danny Nelson, sophomores; Carolyn Strieker and Allen Zeeck, freshmen. This was followed by a pep rally, bon- fire, snake dance, and a midnight movie to boost spirits for Friday night's game. On Friday afternoon the American Legion Color Guard followed by the band led the Blue and Gold Day parade. Floats winning honors were as follows: FHA float-most beautiful; FFA float-most humorous, and the NHS float-most original. On Friday night the Divers were defeated by Willow Lake by a score of 13-6. After the game the students enjoyed dancing to the music of Pat Boff- man. This ended the Blue and Gold Day festivities. 24

CONTESTS COHISRCIAL CONTEST Lake Preston students placed second at the conference commercial contest held in Arlington, April 15. In bookkeeping Joanne Carlson placed first and Leslie Anderson placed third. In Typing I Karen Odegaard received second place. Placing in short- hand were Ilyrna Jibben, third, and Charon Pike,fourth. Karen Johnshoy (not pictured) tied for first place in spelling. HATH CONTEST Lake Preston won the conference math contest on lay 6 with a total of 35a points. Janet Johnshoy placed first in seventh grade math. In Algebra I Karen Johnshoy placed first, Wendell Jibben, second, and Marcia Warren, fourth. Wayne Rassiaussen 4ied for first in plane geometry; Janice Thorsvold and Betty Wienk tied for fourth place. In Algebra II Myrna Jibben placed first, Joanne Carlson, second, and Cheryl Warne, third. The trophy clock (shown left) will now stay in Lake Preston. Ear- lier in the year students entered the math contest in Watertown. Ronald Warne placed fourth in Algebra I. SCIENCE FAIR The local Science Fair was held March 17. Susan Shaw was the winner in the physical science division and Eugene Austad and Terry Danielson placed first in the biolog- ical science division. The local winners participated in the South Dakota State Science Fair in Brook- ings on April 4. Susan Shaw won first place in the senior division of girls’ physical science. In senior division of boys' biological sciende Eugene Austad and Terry Danielson placed third. Karen John- shoy placed second in the junior division of girls' physical, science. 26
