- And The Band Plays On Each year four members of the band are elected to take care of the business of the band for that year. This year four students were chosen who were very eligible and able to perform their duties. The 1958-1959 Band Officers were: Lewis N., Vice President: Sharon J., Librarian; Eileen B., Secretary- Treasurer; and Myrna A., President. This year's band was one of the most outstanding bands in the history of the school. Competing in the American Legion Marching Contest in Huron during June the band won first place in Class B. At the beginning of the school year the band was The Band of the Day at the State Fair. In November the band presented a Pops Concert. In February the band was honored to play a concert for The South Dakota Bandmasters Association Convention in Brookings. In April the band, for the fifth consecutive year, won a Superior rating at the Regional contest. Following the contest the band presented it's annual Spring Concert. The success of the band this year is due to the determined efforts of Mr. Sougstad. Without his excellent leadership we would not have been able to reach the heights that we have attained.
