CLASS PROPHECY In this streamlined year of I960, 10 years after our graduation, I find myself going down the street of a big Metropolis. I spy a big all-glassed in carpenters shop, the sign reads- E. Anderson, propietor. Going 125 mph. has completely wrecked the woodwork on the body of my car so I decide to let the carpenter see what he can do with it. As I enter the shop who greets me but dear old Bud. He hasn't changed much, except that he is a little thicker around the middle. Behold, I see two little youngsters running around, Eldon says that they are twins, names are Eldon and Ellen. Bud and I talk of '“reston High and the Basketball tourneys at Sioux Falls. The subject of farming comes up and he tells me that Gary Jenson owns a four section farm about 9 miles from the city. He has a big concern out there, 5 diesels and all the equipment to go with it. As we stand there shooting the breeze, in comes Gary with his 2U cylinder Paokard. With a brain like his I can see why he went into the motorized-scientific end of farming. Bidding my two old buddies adleq, I get on my way again. I spot a modern road house, The Crain Club and I stop for dinner. As I finish my meal and watch the floor show, whom do you suppose they have in the spotlight? None other than Lois and her Magic Accordian . After the show I go back and have a chat with Lois. She informs me that after school she got married and now is playing her accordian for sheer pleasure. Going down the super-highway, I find that I have to take a detour to get back home because some engineers are working on a bridge. I stop the first pile-driver and ask him the correct way to my destination, he says to see the chief engineer over in the main shop. Entering the shop whom do I lay eyes on but Charles Hendricks. Being one of the best engineers in the country, he now is with the National Highway Commission. I wonder what ever became of his old sparring partner, Norma Holland. He tells me that she has been on her way to Hollywood three times, but she never seemed to get any farther than Reno, Nevada. I wonder why Saying good-bye to Chuck, I get to rolling again, but feeling a little dizzy I decide to go and see a psychiatrist. Since my cousin Madalyn taught school and then took up psychiatry as a oareer I might as well give her the business. She psycho-analyzes me and we get to conversing about some of our pals. Mike says that her girl friend, Ruth Olson, owns a little beauty salon across the street. We go over there and have a chat with Ruth. She tells me that her brother Bob owns the Easy Come, Easy Go , gambling casino across town, so I glgure I might as well go out and give Bob a little business. Besides, I might win a little, but after losing 10 dollars, I go in the back room and talk with Bob. Looking through the glass office, we see a pretty girl. Follow- ing her is a man with a familiar face. It looks like and is-Jim Jensen. We rush out and have a few words with Jim. He tells me that he is big business, he owns a large farm and he trucks on the side. Sitting down in an easy chair in Bobs casino, I pick up a magazine and begbegin reading the ads. One catches my eye. It reads- I have used the 'SURGE MITKER' for 7 years, and would not switch to any other. Signed Keith Hesby, Lake Preston, S. D. Taking quick leave and speeding over to L. P. I now find myself facing Keiter, our good forward on our team. We talk a while and then he says that he Just got a letter from his cousin, Beverly Tolzin, it seems that she fulfilled her ambition and is now working in the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. She is one of their best nurses, but she is still diddling around with the boys as usual. Keith tells me that he likes his Job on the farm. He has expanded his farm into 3 sections now, most of it pasture for his 39 milk cows and his other 50 yearlings. Keith and I decide to go into Lake Preston, My old home town, it has now grown to the enour- mous size of 6,001 it was 5,99i, but Rodney Erickson and his wife Helen moved back. He is teaching English in the high-school. School is still continuing in old LPHS, which now has 250 students. As we go in the main building, and up to the English room, Rodney is suprised to see me. He says that ony three of the class of 50 became teachers. Madalyn, he and Mary Ann Mclain. Phyllis Marek Nelson, also a Journalist works for a newspaper. Mary Jane Oleson is working for her Doctor's Degree, because that is the only way of getting a smart man. At the bank whore I have to cash a check, whom do they have as head teller but Lynn Atwood. At a cafe we meet Dorothy McNamara just home from her work at John's Hopkin's Hospital. She tells me Doris Wonsbeck is married and lives in Sioux Falls and Florence KJellsen works there. Out at the Lake Preston air port we find Arlie Steenson, pilot has Just landed a big fighter plane. Talking with him we learn that Autumn is still waiting tables at Jim's Cafe and that Phyllis Johnson is working as a secretary in Minneapolis. 20
