The Future Homemakers of America had to take two pictures this year. The group has grown because almost all they do is eat. Organizations open to students who are in- terested in music are Band and Choir. There is Declamation for students who like competitive speaking. A number of plays, such as the One-Act play and the all-School Musical, are produced by student actors involved in Drama. The emphasis of the Explorers Club is career planning. Rumor has it that many joined this activity just to get out of class. This is one of the first years that Lake Park School has had a Science Fair Club open tostudents. The Horizon Staff takes pride in creating the annual. They work an awful lot but have fun doing it! The center of all these organiza- tions is the Student Council. Row one: R. Sherbrooke, M. Musical numbers ranged from the era of Swing to the Beach Boys. A touch of humor in the tweeners - short skits and readings between the musical selections added a light touch to this enjoyable evening. 1-ii' he Vi 1 DU CK TAILS and BOBB Y -S OX It was back to the '50's with this year's school musical. The 1983 PARKERS ended the regular season with a l4-4 record, one ofthe best season records in the school's history. The team captured a share ofthe Little Valley Conference title. Going into the District tour- nament, the Lake Park boys were rated fifth. However, a repeat as the District 23 A Champs was not to be, as the Parkers lost to Barnesville in a very close quarterfinal game. This year's team broke the school scoring record, averaging 68 points per game. Troy Olson set three in- dividual records: most steals 1785 in a seasong most steals HOD in a game, and career steals 11835. 79 -S ,--. SENIORS: L. Davis, E. Olson, K. Knutson, R. Jenson, R. CAPTAIN: Kurt Knutson. Peterman. The Girls' Basketball team ended the season with a 5-15 record. lf the season had to be summed up in a word it would be improve- ment . Although the season started out slowly, the last half was a turnaround. The team executed well and presented a respectable challenge to each opponent. The four wins were all key games in the Little Valley Conference race. Lake Park put an end to Audubon's season in the first round of the sub-district 23A tourna- ment action with an im- pressive win and gave the seventh-ranked Dilworth team a scare in thesecond round, but came out on the short end. Since the Parkers are a young team, they are looking forward to a suc- cessful '84 season. Row one: S. Bowors, V. Halvorson, T. Thompson, T. Seter. Row two: L. Scherzer, Stat., L Johnson, J. Ode, E. Junior High Basketball is a great way for kids to learn the fundamental skills of Basketball. Teams consist of students from both the seventh and eighth grades. Parker opponents in- cluded Ulen- Hitterdahl, Audubon, Frazee, Barnesville, Hawley, and Detroit Lakes. The Junior High Boys' teams recorded eight wins and twelve losses. One of the highlights of the season was their third-place finish at the Hitterdahl tournament. Even though their record was unim- pressive, the Junior High Girls never gave up! With a small number of players, the girls met the challenge with much enthusiasm. Some of the more bizarre episodes dur- ing their season were: the first tournament scheduled, reschedul- ed, rescheduled, and never held, getting lost in the big city of Frazeeg and Kim breaking her foot.
