Joy Bly, Andre Inge, Jeannie Goodall and Patty Bartholomew. i 1 How does Lake Braddock tie into the concept of “school”? In the fall of the 1973-1974 school year, none of us was really sure how Lake Braddock would turn-out. Whether it be a failure or a success could not be foretold. We had problems, of course, as does every new school . An unavoidable fact of Lake Braddock is its architecture. When he designed Lake Braddock, our architect used an entirely different concept of “school”. His ideas were far removed from all of the familiar surroundings we’ve been accustomed to. We found ourselves in rooms with¬ out walls. These were called open classrooms. This was a very controversial issue. The parents were less receptive than the students.

Is it the little red-bricked building resting at the top of a small hill with one room and a pot-belly stove? Or... is it a mile-long maze? What is school for? To learn the three R’s? To involve the student in expanding activity and responsibility. What does school mean to a student? Is it a place to make friends? Perhaps it is a dreaded responsibility? At any given moment it might be any one of these, or all of these. Lake Braddock is a different school. Why? Paul Skogerboe at the typewriter. 192 student life

But, since we were able to function well in the open class¬ rooms our parents began to see the light. We feel Lake Braddock has passed the test and has pro¬ ven that the new layout of open classrooms, with neces¬ sities more accessible to the students and teachers, was a better idea. 194 student life Miss Raynes’ fencing class.
