....?-..- FGREWORD Since time immemorikll expansion has been the keynote of the rapid changes in the life and living conditions of mankind. Even in our own small community it has not been entirely lacking. Here it is best exemplified by the increasing number of students enroll' ing in the schools, particularly by the growth of Lackawanna High School. Due to the in-crease in enrollment every year, it became necessary to enlarge the high school building by an additional wing. How' ever, in a short time, this too proved inadef quate. The main building could no longer hold the entire student body, so prst the Lin' coln High School Annex and later the Frank' lin High School Annex came into existence. Now, even with our two annexes, conditions are so crowded that a new building has been proposed. - To bring forth more clearly to our readers the rapidity with which Lackawanna High School has expanded, we have made expanf sion the theme of The Lackawannan for nineteen hundred and thirtyfnine. 2
